The Gate is a lovely small and truly boutique hotel. We had our last visit to Charlie Walter’s restaurant at The Gate, since he will be moving on to another venture. We enjoyed our pig cheek, fish cakes, duck and halibut followed by panacotta with wines. Service was effective, merry and personal. See you in the future in your new venue.

Absolutely delicious meal. No wonder Charlie was a Masterchef finalist. Best food we’ve had in quite a while. Excellent service. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff just topped off the experience. Lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.

We were excited to visit The Gate, it’s a short drive from Looe and easy to find and park. The dining room has large open windows looking into the garden and an interesting shape room that we liked. The waitresses gave good service. We ordered some small plates to share which included the turbot with a very attractive clotted cream sauce and green oil, pig cheek, hispi cabbage with asian flavours, and chicken wings. It was all really lovely and beautifully presented. We are really looking forward to visiting again.

We met for lunch at the Gate as an informal celebration of our friend’s very recent wedding and our wedding anniversary. We were served by Charlie who did everything possible to ensure we had an enjoyable and memorable visit. The food was a high standard and beautifully presented in very comfortable relaxed surroundings. We will have no hesitation in returning to The Gate on our next visit to Cornwall in the future.

Had dinner here last night, four of us, two vegetarian/ vegans and two meat eaters. The food was excellent and the service helpful and friendly. Amazing to have a choice of vegan food. All food was imaginative and the ambience was lovely. The restaurant is set in a beautiful setting. We would highly recommend.

Amazing meal and such a talented couple of chefs in the kitchen. Really great place to eat and drink. If you love your food you have to visit as there is something for everyone. Chicken wings, burrata, monk fish and treacle tart all to die for!!

Disappointing -it was a special family planned to celebrate a significant birthday .the staff while pleasent made no effort to have a conversation , the owner didn’t acknowledge us and the chef came out to speak to people at the table next to us and ignored all the other diners. Needs a professional front of house ,someone who has the time to make their customers feel valued . We are local ,like to dine out, won’t go again or recommend.

Followed Charlie from MasterChef The Professionals to his new residency at The Gate. What a fabulous meal, pure Charlie! Amazing monkfish and turbot to die for. So pleased that Looe is becoming the place to eat…… another fabulous restaurant to add to our list. Well done Charlie!

Food was amazing, mini burger, chicken wings & monk fish all amazing. Staff amazing! Great place to eat and really good atmosphere, would highly recommend to everyone! The team are doing brilliantly! Worth every penny spent and would 100% come back!
