Macdonald Plas Talgarth Resort

The setting of this resort is absolutely beautiful within the gorgeous valley surrounded by trees. It could be so much better with just a little bit more effort. We stayed in Heron which is a two storey apartment. The views from our balcony area looking at the fields of sheep and gorgeous woods was so peaceful. The space is great for 6 adults but the decor is old and tired and really needs updating. The toilet in the hallway had a cracked floor which was so bad we were scared of walking on it. When we complained they put a rubber bath mat over the cracks but we still felt uneasy. The sliding door lock was broken on the outside so if you shut it by mistake or maybe kids being silly the person on the outside would have been stuck on the balcony. The cleanliness of the place wasn't good. The bedroom lamp was so dusty you could write your name in the dust. We used the sofa bed in the lounge and when we pulled it out to set it up there were crisis and biscuit crumbs in it from whoever had been sitting on it before us! The pool area was nice but the jacuzzi wasn't working and the mosaic floor tiles were coming away on the bottom of the pool in places. We stayed last year for the first time and were out more than we were there and didn't really notice the issues as much as this year. We overheard 3 guests complaining about the cleanliness of their apartment. And spine to someone who stays every year as they have a timeshare in the property and they were so unhappy they were meeting with the managers to voice their dissatisfaction. With a very heavy heart I'd have to say we won't be staying again unless they up their cleaning and upgrade the accommodation to a better level.

We like many, booked before checking out the reviews and then worried - we need not have worried at all! We have returned from what can only be described as one of the cheapest and well equipped holidays in Wales that we have ever had! Here are our thoughts! Rooms/accommodation: We stayed in Lapwing and although not the newest decor it was immaculately clean, no sign that dogs had stayed in there at all - maybe we had an apartment in which they didn't allow them 🤷🏼 but it smelled clean, had plenty of pots and pans to cook with and plates,cutlery to eat with. The layout was a large twin room with large ensuite bathroom which has it's own sauna! There was an additional shower/wc room downstairs and then the HUGE living room with open plan kitchen attached. Plenty of seating for 6 people and one sofa became a large, comfortable pull out bed if needed. One evening, as the self catering facilities were so good we had both families in one apartment for dinner which was 7 adults and 3 children and there was still plenty of room. There was plenty of extra bedding and sheets in the ottoman and a gorgeous large balcony overlooking the hills. Upstairs, there was a double bedroom with massive bed and another ensuite bathroom. The only thing that really showed some wear and tear were the wall paper in places and the window frame but this didn't effect our stay and as I said the accommodation was beautifully clean and felt very warm and secure. Facilities: We had worried about the reviews moaning about things being closed. Yes the jacuzzi wasn't working (soon to be fixed) and the sauna in the indoor pool room wasn't in use but the steam room and well sized indoor pool were more than adequate for our kids and us to enjoy! Never too busy and definitely warm enough to spend an hour or so in. The changing rooms were fine - you just have to fiddle the shower controls a little to get the right temperature but they provide hairdryers, plastic bags for wet things and they were clean and tidy. Just remember you need a pound for the lockers. In the lobby overlooking the pool was colouring in materials, chess, draughts and Jenga and a selection of drinks and snacks - a really nice touch when waiting for your group to get changed or those not swimming. The village hall had plenty to keep everyone entertained for a bit on a rainy day - carpet bowls, pin bowling, football, rugby ball, cornhole/sack toss. The bar is only open until 10pm but this is a good thing for those wishing for peaceful nights. Drinks were appropriately priced, tasty and the atmosphere cosy. Plenty of board games available. We also ate curry here one night, although the menu wasn't very large all of our group enjoyed it and it was reasonable. Location: stunning views, great location to head north towards Aberdyfi (fantastic crabbing - people leave there crabbing stuff to be recycled by the next group in a box by the lifeboat building and beautiful little village) and railway lines or south towards

Could not have had a better time. Staff really good and supportive of needs. The additional energy costs should be made aware to those using the accomadation beforehand

just stayed for 3 nites at Plas Talgarth we only live 8 miles away but we're having work done at home so relocated to Plas Talgarth and so pleased we did we had a brilliant apartment the meals in the bar were excellent both Indian and English menu. 3 couples in our family joined us for the 3 nites and were equally happy they had a family apartment and were pleased with everything and all said they would definitely stay again.

We stayed in Lapwing 12 and it was well furnished large tv and was well equipped and clean beautiful well kept gardens but needs some TLC. The food was poor as the chef was away for a week but just outside the grounds is the Riverside pub what serves excellent food.

We stayed in Lapwing 3, 2 bedroom apartment. Typical Macdonald furnishings. Confortable and well equipped. . Friendly reception staff. Showers were powerful and warm. Elemis toiletries. Smart TV but needed Chrome cast to connect to Internet. USB charging ports with plug points. Heated up quickly when used to give a quick boost Enjoyed a couple of dips in the heated outdoor pool. Lovely Indian meals at the onsite bar/restaurant Plenty to do in surroundings area - Corris craft centre, Aberdyfi - beach, Aberystwyth - Cliff raikway, Machynlleth - book, charity & antique shops Lovely to relax, look out on the hills and listen to the birds
