We enjoyed the Conte hotel and Perast. The hotel is at the nicer, quieter end of this beautiful village. The other end near the harbour can have big groups of cruise ship tourists. We had a room in the Annex building which is some distance from the main hotel and reception/restaurant. A buggy takes you to the Annex set behind the fire station and there are quite a number of steep steps to climb. That is a downside to the Annex rooms, but the upside is being right by the pool, it’s quiet and there are a few terraces around the Annex rooms, which are lovely to sit and have a drink early evening. Being high up the view from the rooms is fabulous. So with these Annex rooms, you have to take the rough with the smooth so to speak. It depends what’s important to you. The hotel drops a star because of a few niggles which could be fairly easily put right. The day we arrived we saw that there is a little bar area by the pool but the lady tending it said it wasn’t open until the following day and then it would be open daily 10am to 2pm with a small menu of drinks including beer and cocktails, soft drinks etc. But it didn’t open for our entire stay! Also, there were no toilets around the pool area. No problem for us because we were able to go back to our room. However, for other guests wanting to use the pool, that didn’t have an Annex room, I can’t imagine what they’d have done regarding use of a toilet if they didn’t have a room close to the annex? It might be that there was a toilet block hidden away somewhere, but we didn’t find one. There was no full length mirror in the room. It would be easy to put a simple full length mirror right in front of where the door opens (we were in room 26). There was no plug socket close to the kettle so we had to relocate a little table next to the bed to boil the kettle (it worked but not ideal). It would be easy to put a power socket on the TV side where the kettle and mugs etc are kept. On several occasions we had to ask for the sachets of instant coffee to be replaced as the cleaner did not replace them. Why is there no toast at breakfast? No toaster, no toast, though there is bread. One day I asked waiting staff to ask the kitchen (next to the breakfast room) to toast some bread for me and when it was returned to me it was literally like a hard biscuit. So I guess something lost in translation. I thought ‘toast’ was understood universally! Apparently not. This can easily be put right by simply having a toaster in the breakfast room. Coffee is machine coffee but it’s good and strong. Despite a few annoyances, overall we would stay here again and would recommend. Lovely reception staff and great breakfast. Fabulous view at the restaurant on the water’s edge.
