"I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Heritage Inn was one of the most upsetting customer service experiences I have ever had. This was about an employee who abused me and made me feel extremely unsafe. On August 5, I accidentally booked two rooms (in two separate reservations) through Trip.com for August 6–7 instead of my intended dates of September 3–5 for an upcoming religious celebration. I realized the mistake almost immediately. To show this was an honest error—not an attempt to avoid payment—I immediately booked two replacement rooms at the same hotel for September 3–5. Trip.com worked with the booking provider to request cancellation of the reservations. The August 6 reservation was approved for cancellation, but the August 7 reservation was denied. We then called the hotel and spoke with the manager, Pete, who understood the situation and told us to have another cancellation request submitted, assuring us that he would approve it. Following Pete's instructions, Trip.com submitted another cancellation request on my behalf. To our surprise, the request was denied again. When I called the hotel back to understand why, Pete was unavailable, and another employee answered. Rather than listening or trying to help, he repeatedly told me I was "Expedia's customer" and not the hotel's customer. He spent several minutes lecturing me for making an honest mistake, criticizing me for not reading the terms and conditions, and speaking to me in a rude, abrasive, and demeaning manner. He literally berated me. What should have been a simple customer service conversation turned into an unpleasant argument because of his attitude. Most disturbing of all, he threatened to cancel my September 3–5 reservation, even though I had rebooked those rooms in good faith to correct my mistake. From the beginning, I understood that I might have to pay a cancellation penalty for my mistake. Had I been treated with courtesy, dignity, and respect, I likely would have accepted that outcome without complaint. Sometimes mistakes are costly. Instead, the way I was treated fundamentally changed the situation. No customer deserves to be ridiculed, belittled, or threatened for making an honest mistake and then immediately taking steps to correct it. This review is not about the hotel's cancellation policy. It is about how a customer was treated. Policies can be enforced professionally and respectfully. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at Heritage Inn. In fairness to the hotel, i have no opinion on the cleanliness, location, maintenance or the facilities. This is strictly about the behavior of the front desk employee."
