The Promenade

We booked this last minute after our original accommodation in Pondicherry disappointed. The hotel is located on the Promenade overlooking the beach with sea views, with the old lighthouse and Gandhi statue next door. We had a twin room, which was super clean, had an ensuite bathroom, wardrobe, and safe. The staff here were great, so helpful and avcommodating. Breakfast was included and consisted of buffet style local dishes, made to order egg dishes as well as an amazing selection of pastries and cakes. The hotel also had 3 bars and 2 restaurants with a restaurant and bar on the rooftop. There was also a small outside swimming pool, which was well maintained. We loved to sit in the garden with a drink in the late afternoon watching the world go by. Would definitely recommend a stay.

Enjoyable and safe stay. Dined at all the three restaurants food was delicious with a variety of cuisines. Just in front of rock beach,enjoyed beach view even at night the beach road was bustling with people and we went for walks or just sat till late enjoying the waves. The staff very very polite and cheerful. Overall good experience

This hotel is in a great location overlooking the beach. My room had a great view of the beach. The promenade is a nice walk. The rooms are clean and the restaurants are good. The location is a very easy walk to the attractions and sights of Pondicherry and shopping.

We had a lovely time at hotel Promenade, it has a very good view of the promenade and the rock beach, light house,and Gandhi memorial. It was within walking distance of white town and the Aurobindo ashram, and all the cafes. The breakfast was delicious, loved the chocolate crossiants and the sour dough bread. They have a huge spread. The only Negative is ,on holidays in the evening the vehicle cannot drop you at the doorstep, it might inconvenience to older people. Bikram at the reception was of great help .

Excellent location. Friendly staff. Lovely food. Overall a very satisfying experience. All tourist attractions are nearby except for Auroville, which is anyway located a little far from the town area. We had a memorable holiday in Pondicherry and our stay in The Promenade was truly enjoyable.

I stayed here for 2 nights in the premium sea-view room. Loved: * The spaciousness of the room. * LOTS of natural light. * The sea view and also the promenade view was great for people watching. If you can stretch your budget to get the premium room, imo it is worth it. * The food was surprisingly good. Better than the two meals I ate at well-reviewed restaurants; e.g. Coromandel was a major let-down (hard overcooked fish and undercooked carrots, ***). * The restaurant too has lots of natural light, and the AC is much-welcome after wandering around in the heat. * Restaurant service was good, a bit on the slow side, but that seems to be the norm in Pondicherry, so I didn’t mind. Did not like: * I was frustrated by the lack of table space and counter space in the room (to put things on and to write/work on a laptop). There is one small 2’x2’ table, but it’s knee height. Then there is a small alcove in the corner where they have optimistically placed a desk chair, but you cannot use it as a desk because it is too narrow and there is no place to put your legs! * The restaurant has some nice tables by the window. But in the morning for breakfast, direct sunlight hits the space, so it’s too hot to sit there. The hotel should think of some creative solutions for this to allow one to sit there, without compromising on the view and the decor - seems doable to me. * In the restaurant they only placed bottled water on the table, and I had to ask for "normal" water and only then they brought it. The normal water was not cold; I had to ask for ice. In a hot place like this, don't you think cold water should be available without having to ask?
