Casa Das Palmeiras Charming House - Azores 1901

This is a beautiful casa built in 1901 in the heart of the city. It has been renovated and decorated with much attention to detail. The staff are friendly, helpful & inviting, the beds are comfortable, the bath linens are superior, the hot water was plentiful and the breakfasts are decent. There are many great restaurants and sights within walking distance and a great gelato shop a block away. Just a note to mention that our room was on the upper 3rd floor & there is no elevator, so be prepared to climb and there is no bar fridge in the room to keep drinks or hiking water cold.

This hotel is charming, but there were some problems that made the stay less than perfect. One problem was that the shower in Room 10 was busted (the holder was busted so you couldn't take a normal shower under the showerhead/nozzle... you had to hold it with your hand.) Another issue is that we were woken up near midnight on the first night of our stay by people knocking on the door. It was hotel staff, because they were wondering how we had a key to the room when they still had two keycards in their possession.. we showed them our card, and they realized it was their error, but we were exhausted after traveling for 15 hours, so this was very bad timing to interrupt our sleep. We also found out that the lock to our door wasn't working at all... the room had remained unlocked all day with our possessions inside. Fortunately, nothing happened, but it could have... they had to repair the door lock the following day. After that, everything was fine. Breakfasts were decent and the location is good (be aware you have to climb stairs to get to the rooms.) This would have been a 5 star stay, but the problems we encountered really detracted from the experience.

The hotel was gorgeous with an amazing host. We arrived at the property early in the morning, and the host let us leave our bags while we went exploring until it was check-in time. The hotel was extremely clean, warm, and welcoming. The breakfast room was beautiful, and the breakfast had a huge selection of cold meats, cereals, breads, and jams with an option for hot food too, such as bacon, eggs, and pancakes. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Fabulous stay in this gorgeous B&B in the historic centre of Ponta Delgada. Our room (a Superior Double) was lovely — spotlessly clean and very comfortable with a very good-sized shower room. The stairs to the room provided a good daily workout. There is no lift, so not for those with mobility challenges. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were very varied and plentiful. Something for everyone: pastries, breads, jams, pancakes, eggs, yogurts, fruit, cold meats, salad, juices. Great location within five minutes’ walk of seafront, centre of town. On-site parking available at €5 per day. Would definitely recommend and book again if in the area.

We loved this place! It made the holiday to stay somewhere they felt really well-loved and looked after and full of character. The whole building felt really unique and was spotlessly clean throughout. We loved the outside seating area for a glass of wine and our bedroom was enormous and again, kept immaculate. Special thank you to the housekeeping staff who looked after our family of four’s room… Staff at the desk were more than helpful. Centrally located so I had expected some noise but actually heard almost none (we were in the top floor so maybe they helped but it was really quiet and we all slept well) Beautifully laid out tables at breakfast We will miss this hotel as much as the beautiful island itself. Couldn’t have chosen better

A beautifully restored house. Our room was spacious. We loved the high ceilings and the subtle decoration. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast had a good variety of local produce. Close to the centre but quiet at night. No hesitation in recommending.

Clean, comfortable and, yes, “charming” hotel - excellent central location for exploring Ponta Delgada. Spacious rooms, limited but perfectly adequate buffet breakfast including fresh rolls, fruit and cake. Several decent bars and cafes are literally on the doorstep or around the corner - don’t miss the artisanal ice cream shop.

Casa is a very charming hotel. The location is very convenient to many sites and restaurants. The extensive breakfast is delicious, varied, freshly made and abundant. The staff is very attentive, professional yet friendly and responsive. The one major drawback is that our beautiful room was on the top floor. The 58 steps, even with a landing, were sometimes exhausting and difficult for me with a bad knee! Be aware, the Casa is adjacent to an often loud bar that features music!!

This place was perfect! I honestly can't think of anything bad to say. Staff were amazing and helpful. The room was comfy and clean and breakfest was great. My only complaint is a bit of traffic noise early AM and I smacked my heas 6 or 7 times on the ceiling because the lower ceiling in certain parts of the room, but in all fairness, the shape of the room adds to the uniqueness and charm of the room. The best part of the stay were the staff. Super friendly, patient and very informative. They helped me out huge with figuring out day outings to other parts of the island. Breakfest had a fairly good assortment of food, and there are also 2 restaurants within 100 feet of the hotel. The room itself was cozy and the perfect size. Due to the shape of parts of the room I ended up smacking my head 6 or 7 times when standing up from the seat or when shaving in the bathroom, however, the low ceilings in parts of the room/bathroom also add to the charm of this particular hotel. My only recommendation is perhaps adding a small bar fridge to the rooms so if anyone is staying for several days they can keep any food/drinks they've bought cold. I've stayed in many, many hotels across Europe and this was one of the best ones. Thank-you guys for being so awesome! No doubt i'd give this place a 4.5 out of 5. Cheers!
