The White House Port Douglas

Their website states that: ‘They have a lovely outlook onto trees and towards the ocean but they're in a really quiet spot so at night all you usually hear are the curlews’ We booked our 2025 holiday when we were in Port Douglas in 2024 and were assured we would have a quiet relaxing holiday at The White House. On arrival, to our surprise and disappointment, the ‘quiet park’ opposite had become a very noisy, dusty construction site operating from 7am until 5pm seven days a week. The loud incessant noise continued for our entire 21 day holiday, making it unbearable to use our balcony or leave our doors open. We received several emails during the year from The White House but no mention was ever made of this planned construction work. The quiet park opposite will now become a water splash park, so expect continual noise everyday from children, skateboarders etc. The White House is situated on a very busy, noisy intersection with cars heading for the beach (and now the splash park) and also towards Macrossan Street with trucks also heading to nearby construction sites. Unfortunately The White House is no longer a quiet, relaxing place to stay, there are quieter and better value places in Port Douglas.

These holiday apartments were very comfortable for our family of 4. Clean, equipped with all the basics and good AC. One block from 4 Mile Beach and walkable into town or the marina. The pool was small but pretty and there was a covered area for relaxing outside. Tony was helpful with recommendations for excursions and snorkeling trips. It rained the whole time we were there but we still had a great time!

Went to Australia for three weeks and the White House was the best place we stayed! Helen and Tony are the best hosts, they went above and beyond, they even helped my friend get her lost passport back from our previous accommodation 100s of miles from Port Douglas! The apartment was beautiful and well equipped! One word sums up the accommodation…..PERFECT!!

We stayed at the White House for 4 weeks over July/August. We have stayed at a number of accommodations in Port Douglas over the last few years and this is our favourite and the one we will return to. I like the smaller size being only 10 apartments. The position is perfect being close to the beach, main Street and restaurants. It is quiet, opposite a park and surrounded by trees - the bird sounds were beautiful! The apartments are private, very well appointed with everything you need and everything works. Little things like good lighting made a difference. The pool and barbecue area are lovely and user friendly. Tony keeps the surrounding garden immaculately. Tony & Helen are excellent hosts, friendly and helpful but not instructive. We look forward to our stay next year.

This is about our 10th visit to the White House Port Douglas. As usual everything went like clockwork The white House is 5 minutes walk from Macrossan Street, the main dining and shopping area, less than 5 minutes from 4 mile beach. The staff are wonderful, very caring, in fact the manager sent me a message on our arrival to Cairns, to say the main road from Cairns to Port Douglas was blocked by an accident, and maybe to find an alternative route, I call that service. The premises are always clean, staff friendly, what else can you need for a holiday in paradise.......
