The Press Hotel, Autograph Collection

The Press Hotel is a very nice hotel; clean, modern, upscale. But I found the valuer for the money was lacking. The food in their restaurant, Union, was above average but the prices were too high for what you got. Breakfast for two (one order of oatmeal and one order of a smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese) came to $44, and with a 20% tip thrown in the meal cost $53. For breakfast! My dinner the night before was similar; very tasty food, but not worth the $125 price for two people. If you don't mind spending lots of $$, it's a great hotel with excellent service and nice rooms.

A well conceived and thoughtfully decorated hotel paying tribute to the history of the building it calls home: friendly and welcoming staff, nicely appointed rooms with an attention to quality, and a good location in downtown Portland. It would be nice if some sort of coffee and tea service was provided in the room, or at least a hot water kettle; also that the breakfast doesn’t start until 7:30 makes for less flexibility in the morning—though my meal was quite tasty and with expeditious service. I would happily stay here again.

While check-in and valet parking service was fast and efficient, the rest of our stay was not up to luxury standards. The room was so small there was only room for 1 chair, which was damaged. The pillows were terrible and the replacement pillows were not much better. At every luxury hotel we’ve ever stayed in, the pillows were either superior or there was an assortment of pillows in various degrees of firmness, but not here. The sheets while not horrible were not silky smooth we’ve come to expect. We had to have maintenance repair the desk outlet for our electronics and while they came promptly, we shouldn’t have had to request the repair. Perhaps the most inattention to details was at breakfast when the English muffin in my Eggs Benedict was burnt. How can you plate a burnt muffin? While we didn’t complain because service was in the slow side and we had plans, it still was annoying to eat around the black parts. Our travel agent booked our room. We complained again at checkout and the desk clerk asked me what I expected when we booked through *******. What an insult. Shouldn’t all guests receive the same service, the same luxury no matter how the room was paid for? Our travel agent did misinform us about the accommodation we were to have. We had a regular room instead of the executive king and perhaps that room would have met our expectations. The bathroom was lovely and lived up to the luxury expectation. The location was excellent. We would not stay here again nor recommend this hotel. We also informed our travel agent of our unhappiness with the accommodations.

A wonderful stay at The Press Hotel. We stayed in room 701. It’s very spacious with a living area, two bathrooms and amazing master bedroom. The room includes a pull out sofa and rooftop for sweeping views of the city. The hotel theme is great - old typewriters are everywhere, once used by reporters within the Portland Press Herald building. Reminders of the past can be found all over the hotel; an awesome aspect. Service was fine. Front desk could use some fine-tuning. Valet workers very nice and always on top of things. I’d definitely recommend The Press Hotel!

Loved staying at the Press Hotel in Portland Maine. It’s big enough to feel like a hotel yet small enough to feel like a well appointed boutique. Service was superb from check in to check out with particular emphasis on front desk and valet staff. The location is fantastic with a myriad of restaurants, bars, shops and attractions all within a short walk’s distance. We stayed here a week without ever needing a car. Our room was good sized, comfortable, and had everything you needed. I’d stay here again and can’t say enough about the character and graciously welcoming staff.

The Press Hotel in downtown Portland is an eclectic spot with great design and very comfortable rooms. We loved being RIGHT in the city, minutes walk away from our favorite Portland shops and restaurants. The entire building is very cool, and the on site restaurant is phenomenal.

The Press Hotel was a great hotel - absolutely perfect location for everything walking in the old port area of Portland! Exceptional service, very clean and well appointed rooms. Quiet neighborhood and very safe. Close to every popular restaurant and shopping interest.

Room was beautiful. On the 5th floor corner suite. We stayed for 3 nights. Location is excellent. Room cleaning could have been much better. Restaurant is over priced. We landed very early (8am) and requested early check in. We were told she’ll have cleaners get into the room as soon as guests check out. 8 hours later we got our room - 4pm. With platinum status we were hoping for a little earlier. As the day went on the lobby filled up with guests waiting for their rooms. Generally staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall felt hotel rates are overvalued.
