Michie House in College Hill

Good stay with decent location and cleanliness. But took 3 hrs to check in and there is no staff on-site.

I should have read the reviews before booking this. I arrived on 10/21 and there was no sign outside and no street number. I found a doorway that looked possible, and rang the buzzer but no answer. Fortunately, a young man came up the steps from the sidewalk and said that in order to get in I should have gotten an email with instructions, which I had not received. He let me in with him, and there was a dismal flight of stairs. There was, however, no staff at all on the premises. He gave me a phone number, and I was able to speak with a man who said I had to have the instructions in the email. He tried sending me emails and texts, and finally I was able to get the text. He did assign me a room and give me the passcodes to the room door and the downstairs entry door. When I checked the room, it was obvious that the sheets had not been changed from the previous user, since there were hairs and dirt on them. I called him back and he offered me another room - same, only worse. I refused to stay, and insisted on a refund, which I have not yet received [they said it would take 7 to 10 business days]. Disgusting!

Poor communication from the outset. I sent a message asking if they could clarify a couple of small details relating to the area and mentioned that i would be checking out a day earlier (not asking for a refund) as i had booked an extra day by mistake. 2 months later i received a reply. Arrival - Directions clear enough but there is no sign at all for the property, no person to meet you on arrival, the only person i saw other than the odd other guest here and there was a cleaner. Room - Absolutley disgusting and had the option been avaliable to go somewhere else i would have done. Pictures show the current state of the room i stayed in. Taken within 5 minutes of me walking into the room. The mattress was turned upside down, the pictures are when i filpped it back the right way. Location - The only plus point about the "hotel" a good selection of food places and the bus stop was right outside the door. Deposit - A $100 deposit was requested the day before arrival and to be fair it was promtly returned afterwards, although I wonder what "damage" i could have done before they kept it. 100% would not stay again and Stefano wanted to be mentioned so there you go you've got a mention. I have no idea who you are and i'm pretty certain i didnt see you at any point.

Pretty good place to stay for the budget conscious. Private, quiet, safe and clean. Great location.
