Twenty minutes from the beautiful historic mountain resort of Potes, up a steep winding mountain road, lies the picturesque hamlet of Tudes where you can find La Casa De Las Chimineas. This is a hidden gem that must be experienced to appreciate it fully. We flew into Santander and hired a car for the two hour drive to Tudes. We were met by Lucia, the lovely owner, who showed us to our accommodation; the Milenio apartment, which she informed us was in the oldest part of the building and over 1000 years old. Although within the same building as the other apartments, Milenio is separated, in that it has it's own entrance, garden with sun loungers and separate access to the communal pool. The only drawback (which we got used to quite quickly) was the low doorways, since 1000 years ago apparently people were somewhat shorter! The apartment was clean, well-equipped, remained cool throughout the heat of the day, has excellent Wi-Fi and comfortable beds. Tudes has a delightful pub, serving delicious local food and drink at a very reasonable price and ice-creams during the day. We spent a wonderful fortnight in the apartment, which was ideally placed for rest and relaxation, combined with local walks and interesting sightseeing opportunities. The views from the apartment are spectacular and it was quite a surreal experience to swim in an infinity pool with views to the Picos de Europa mountains. Our teenage daughter particularly appreciated the beautifully clean infinity pool. We would strongly recommend La Casa De Las Chimineas, if you are looking for an authentic Spanish holiday away from it all in the mountains and we are looking forward to returning.
