Okay for a short, peaceful stay. Rooms are basic, in need of a revamp but at least are kept clean. Thankfully the bed was comfortable. Disappointed that there are no tea/coffee making facilities but at least you have a fridge and there is a Spar just up the road to fill with water etc. Bathroom towels provided, but pool towels are offered to rent for a weekly/daily charge. Shops nearby were selling adequate ones for less cost. To use the safe in your room you have to actually rent the key, at €25 for the week, and €3 cash deposit which at end of your holiday when handing the key back it’s returned. Don’t expect much from the food - some combinations are strange….cauliflower cheese at breakfast wasn’t at all popular! During our stay the food wasn’t replenished during dinner until you asked why the trays were empty at 8:15pm! Fresh fruit was scarce with mainly tinned presented, the same every day. The number of times cutlery, crockery and glassware weren’t available was a daily occurrence - and this not even at the height of the Summer season. Definitely lack of staff meant tables not cleared, and long queues at the bar. As for the drinks, local spirits/beer/wine are ok-ish, but steer clear of the machine-made overly sweet cocktails - yuk! The swimming pools were disappointing. One was like getting into a warm bath and so unsafe to get in/out of as the step ladder was very loose with the steps themselves being very deep, so especially difficult for those with mobility issues. The other pool was smaller, cooler and at least had short steps to walk in. Sometimes the cleanliness was questionable, mainly when the regular cleaner was taking time off. No other staff member filled in to clean so the night mosquitoes were left to float on top of the water, and duck feathers from the recent resident duck’s night swim, along with poop, wasn’t exactly guest friendly. The grounds are mainly concrete to walk around and during our stay we saw three people fall down. The hotel medic was quick to respond, but it really isn’t an ideal hotel to book if you are struggling. Entertainment was sometimes put on in the evening. Two different style singers performed when we were there, and both were very inclusive in getting guests joining in with singing and dancing. Overall if this is the expected standard of a 3* which has people returning, then good for them. Although a member of the JS hotel group, our decision is not to recommend or return here.
