During our trip through Peru, one of the destinations we visited was Lake Titicaca. To explore this area, we stayed for two nights at the GHL Hotel Lago Titicaca. The hotel’s main asset is its location, offering extraordinary views of the lake. Although rooms facing the lake are more expensive, the additional cost is well worth it. Unfortunately, the journey to Juliaca Airport takes over an hour. Despite the hotel being rated as a 5-star establishment, we disagree with this classification. The infrastructure is quite simple, even basic. The lobby lacks any notable features, and the bar and dining areas are unremarkable. However, the price is attractive, and the staff is attentive and friendly. Check-in proceeded without incident, and we were assigned room #420 with a lake view. The room was tiny, making it difficult to move without bumping into things. The TV had two different remote controls that were hard to use, requiring staff assistance. The air conditioning temperature couldn’t be adjusted; only the fan speed could be changed, and it was incredibly noisy. The king-size bed had cotton sheets and was moderately comfortable. The large windows weren’t impeccably clean, with visible fingerprints on the glass. Bathrobes and slippers were provided, along with water and tea, but no coffee. The bathroom was minimal, featuring a bathtub with plastic curtains. Basic bath amenities were supplied, with some replacements only available upon request. We had the buffet breakfast at the restaurant and a light meal at the bar, both of which we enjoyed. In conclusion, this hotel is basic, offers good value for money, and boasts a unique location. Therefore, it might be a good choice for short stays.
