Sandman Hotel Quesnel

We were not impressed when we arrived at the Sandman Hotel in Quesnel. The location is out of town and it seemed like the hotel was undergoing a bit of a refurbishment. The number plaque for our room was on the floor outside the room propped up on the dirty walls that had wallpaper half scraped off. The room itself was dull with confusing facilities as there was a big fridge and a microwave but no cups or kettle or coffee machine! There was an ice bucket but no glasses to drink out of! The table and chairs in the room were like those you would find in a transport café. Thankfully the bathroom was fully functional and clean. I went to reception - the lady was really kind and gave us some paper cups. She said that from 5am there would be complimentary tea and coffee available in the foyer. There was no bar in the hotel - food and soft drinks could be purchased from the adjoining Denny's. We were shocked that this is the hotel that the Rocky Mountaineer company put their guests in.

My husband and I had reservations for middle of Sept 2024. We had reserved a pet room, but upon check in all double pet rooms were occupied so the Wonderful Jessica upgraded us to the Queen suite!! Freshly renovated and very very beautiful! Spacious, bright, super clean, well stocked kitchenette. The finishing in bathroom and throughout are very tasteful. Altho this location is undergoing renovations, we were perfectly comfortable and not inconvenienced by this at all. We visit Quesnel frequently and will most definitely be staying with this hotel!

Like the last reviewer we stayed in room 301 but luckily 3 months later all the refurbishments in the room and on the 3rd floor were completed. We did have cups provided though these were paper and only one each. We agree that this should not be a hotel used by Rocky Mountaineer purely due to its location. As we approached the hotel we were dismayed as it looked like a downbeat roadside motel. However, the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful both prior to and during our stay. We had requested a quiet end of corridor high floor room and that is exactly what we got. All interactions with the staff were very positive doing their best to make you feel welcome. We did have one issue - the safe was already locked and would not reset. Maintenance had gone home and therefore it was unusable. Luckily, Rocky Mountaineer provided a shuttle bus into town which allowed us to spend a couple of hours there (that is all you need). Otherwise your entertainment is a visit to Walmart across the road! The options for eating were limited to Denny’s which had terrible reviews so we had a sandwich in our rooms sat at our transport cafe table and chairs (yes they really are but they weren’t too uncomfortable).

I’m so disappointed in the Sandman in Quesnel, the room was dirty, the carpet and very worn furniture, black mold in the bathroom. I expect more when travelling. The front desk staff are friendly during check in. Will not stay at the Sandman in Quesnel again you can get better value for your money in Prince George.

This hotel is undergoing some major renovations so keep that in mind. When I stayed here, the room I had was not yet updated. So, like other reviewers, I shared the same experience of a tired room which could have used a lot of TLC. As the condition of the unrenovated rooms are not the fault of the staff, I would say service here is excellent. The GM, Brent is amazing and makes everyone feel welcome and cared for. If I go back to Quesnel, I would give this property another go and would be very curious to see the state of the newly renovated guest rooms.

Super friendly service right from the check in. Even though they are dealing with a huge renovation, everyone was so helpful. The Manager, Brent even stopped to checked in on us! It will be terrific to see the completed new rooms. Definitely will be back!

Great beds, awesome staff. Reno’s are in progress, can’t wait to see it when they are done! The pool was shut down for Reno’s too while we were there but they had vouchers to the local rec centre which we are happy they offered. Will definitely stay again!

We expected basic, but this was BAD. Nasty rooms. Horrible beds. I left an item behind (won't accuse of theft), called and the front desk, which said they'd get back never did, nor did an email to the GM.

Staff was wonderful, room was in need of a deep clean or a renovation. Walls were ding dented dirty . Beds were clean . The pool was clean and maintained the grandkids enjoyed . Our room was right above the pool and the smell of chlorine was a lil overwhelming. We left the bathroom fan on to air out the room.
