Red Rock Inn

行程中最獨特的一次住宿體驗。30年代的房子舊但整潔，年代感十足。衹有二樓是客房，一樓和地下室都是服務性空間，暢達舒適。一樓不僅有餐廳廚房，還有閲讀室，展示廳，最特別的是週六小型樂隊表演。地下室是娛樂房，各類桌球遊戲桌球乒乓球棋琴書畫應有盡有。所有這些都是客人可享用的。願意自己做飯，或去任一廳室活動，感覺回到兒時的家裡。長者唐尼和藹可親，親自送客人到房間一一介紹。有空時領我們參觀廳室，講述歷史，曾有數批海外小學生住在這裏研學，結束時依依不捨，留下很多紀念品。看時間還早，長者建議我們去附近山上看湖景，並裝了一大包鳥食讓我們帶着去湖邊逗鳥。不僅住得舒適，窗外風景如畫，而且小鎮就是蘇必利環湖旅遊總部所在。安靜閑適！下次一定會再去！

Quirky indeed, in a warm and wonderful way! My wife and I overnighted at the Inn in Sept. 2024; we happily would have stayed longer if not for prior commitments further along on our road trip. Everything I might write here will echo so much of what we've read in the many other positive reviews. We were blessed with a spacious, clean, corner "retro" room—though it was hard to tell what set it apart from other rooms in that last regard—with a fine view onto the Lake. Our host Donny was gracious and accommodating in ways others have mentioned, including freely encouraging us to explore the premises and inviting us to keep our "cooler" things—and refresh our ice—in the big kitchen fridge reserved exclusively for guest use. We loved the authentic—absolutely not faux or in any obvious way contrived—antique feel of the place and its contents, the wonderful woodwork throughout, the countless paintings and quilts on display (most courtesy Donny's late partner), and the relaxed atmosphere generally. We met and chatted with several other guests. Our 2 regrets were that we were one night too soon for the Saturday evening "Innmates" event, and that our plans didn't allow us to stay longer. We certainly will stay again should we pass that way another time, as well we might with our recent experience at the Red Rock Inn being one of our motivations. PS The quiet community of Red Rock itself is such a refreshing change from the busy, commercial atmosphere that generally prevails in places along Hwy 17.

What a great place! Felt like we walked onto a 1950's movie set. Don Evans is an excellent and entertaining host. Interesting art throughout the building ( by Don's wife). The view from our window made me think of a Lawren Harris painting. Absolutely stunning. Comfortable bed and a Hardy Boys book on the bedside table ;) A beautiful park right in front of the hotel. Perfect for a picnic. Red Rock is a charming town with a grocery store near the Inn. No Walmart, no urban sprawl. I intend to go back!

The history of this Inn is phenomenal! The entire place is filled with antiques from either the actual Inn or from town donations. Don was very friendly and knowledgeable of history. The lobby did smell 'musty' but our room did not. Room was very small, no TV, phone, AC, frig, coffeemaker, or wifi. The breakfast was homemade breads in ziplocs, coffee, juice boxes, cereals and yogurts. Sadly the outside of Inn has not been kept with peeling paint, overgrown bushes/flowers. I had called for reservation in March, talked to Don for at least 20 minutes-ending call with no need for confirmation number or credit card to hold room-we were all set. When we arrived he did not have us coming but was very accommodating and got us into a room. It was definitely a unique place to stay and we're glad we tried it!

What a grand lady! The Red Rock Inn and Don, her charming proprietor have been the highlight of our road trip across Canada. Our room was exceptionally clean and had the most wonderful window cross breeze. You won't regret spending the night!

This was our 3rd stay in 5 years while we drive across Canada. It is a unique older hotel which has undergone renovations and is furnished in an eclectic style. The owner is friendly. There is a good breakfast buffet. The public rooms in the hotel are filled with interesting original art work, and many interesting older objects. The rooms are spacious and recently renovated. The rooms are not cookie cutter style, but each one we have stayed in is unique. We extended our stay by a night and were moved to the main floor to a room with a fireplace. The rooms are comfortable and the ones facing the lake have a wonderful view of sunrises.

Quirky, a phrase used often in reviews for this place. If you need polished chrome, laminate floors, granite counters and Ikea-like furniture, then the Red Rock Inn is not for you... find the nearest Holiday Inn express or Best Western and move on. This place is more of a cross between a rustic cottage cabin or disheveled New England coastal hotel. Such and interesting history. It started out as a bunk house for saw mill workers and actually saw action as a POW camp for German officers during WWII. As for what it is now... almost too difficult to describe. Rooms: We only saw one, but it was huge with no two pieces of furniture matching. There was no TV, Microwave, AC or mini fridge. The area rug was a little thread-bare and the hardwood floors had been repaired in places with plywood. I suppose some would try to find endless fault with all of that, but it was clean and comfortable. We also had a beautiful view of lake Superior from our two large windows and a lovely breeze coming in from the lake. A private three piece bathroom worked fine, and both Queen size beds were comfy. Lobby and common areas: These were a strange mixture of yard-sale and thrift store motif. Cluttered with poster boards of newspaper articles, magazine covers and personal artifacts dear to the owner. The overall decorating scheme seemed to be piling every flat surface with vintage telephones, radios, record players and 'modern convenience' of the 1950"s. These style choices would put-off the easily put-off clients. I felt slightly bemused and was willing to go along with the shabby-chic, dime store soda fountain vibe. The owner, Donny, was proud of the business he has built, the legacy he has forged and the relationships he has built in his hometown (which include hosting weekly rock and roll shows in his enormous dining room) This was a hotel experience unlike any that I have ever had. It's not everybody's cup of tea, and I'm not sure I'd want to have every place I stay at adopt the same design and business model, but for one night on our cross-Canada vacation, my wife and I were more than happy to step into a bit of weirdness and would not have changed anything.

My sister and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Red Rock Inn during our trip from Edmonton to our hometown east of Sault Ste. Marie. If you appreciate accommodations rich in history and character, you will love this place! When we pulled up in front of the inn, it reminded me of a scene from a movie with its quaint and historic charm. The lobby is brimming with information about the hotel's history dating back to the Second World War. Don, the owner, proved to be the perfect host, enhancing our stay with his warm hospitality, interesting stories, and sense of humour. Our room was comfortable and charming, full of character, yet still featuring all the modern amenities one would expect in a contemporary hotel. We were treated to stunning views of Nipigon Bay from our floor, adding to the overall experience. The thoughtful touches, such as the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books (favourites from our childhood) adorning the rooms, made our stay truly unique. The Red Rock Inn offers an experience unlike any other, and we will definitely be back!

Lovely Inn that was built over 100 years ago with a storied past. Great host with an encyclopedic knowledge of the region and a great storyteller. Beautiful scenery in a very quiet location on Lake Superior where you can get the morning sun in your windows. You can browse through the entire place and see what it was like in thr 50's
