Kolympia itself has little to offer, and what’s there feels quite rundown. Maybe it was the early season, but we only found one nearby restaurant as an alternative to the hotel food, which quickly became repetitive. The hotel facilities need some attention. Some of the rooms were tired and many amenities were either broken or unavailable. Even basics like hot water and Wi-Fi were inconsistent. Evenings in the lobby were odd—slow, somber music that created more of a funeral atmosphere than a relaxing holiday vibe. While a few staff members were friendly and did their best—particularly at the outside bar and Lee-Ron from the entertainment team—overall, the experience was underwhelming. The entertainment staff (apart from Lee-Ron) were barely visible and didn’t seem to engage with guests or run any activities. Most of the time, they appeared to be just enjoying the meals rather than contributing to the guest experience. A particularly uncomfortable incident occurred when a restaurant staff member became unwell. Rather than being helped right away, she was told to lie down behind the food area until a guest asked if she was ok. Only then did a middle manager act-the same manager who had told her to lie down there in the first instance! This same manager was often seen directing staff with hand gestures in a way that felt demeaning and made guests uneasy. That said, the restaurant and bar staff—especially those at the snack bar—were fantastic. They worked hard, stayed friendly, and managed queues efficiently. We did enjoy our holiday, largely because we made our own fun, kept the drinks flowing, and never went hungry. But this hotel has a long way to go before it can say it’s an 4* experience.
