This place used to be the best for food, especially Sunday lunches. Not sure what's changed but our last visit in August was very disappointing. Food was pretty awful and the service poor. Hopefully it gets back to it's former glory. Such a shame

We spent one night at the Black Lion and overall it was good value for money. Bar / dining area were nice. Bedroom was quite dark as the window was off to one side but it's an old building and no doubt the window was in a better spot somewhere in the buildings history ... rooms lighting was very good though. Breakfast was really good. Parking at bsck of property. Just 2 min stroll into the main square and Richmond castle just a bit further. No negatives and well worth a visit.

We have stayed here before but the meet and greet was not that great. The room we stayed in and even the inconvenience of the bathroom across the hall didn’t dampen our stay. I didn’t bang my head on the ceiling with the low alcove. Room was clean. Breakfast lady was nice but rather regimental but again Breakfast was good. So the mark down was the meet and greet that’s all.

Restaurant terrible. Waited about 15 minutes for menus and drink orders for four at a very non-busy 5pm. Food was hit miss, mostly miss. But when we ordered dessert, it got crazy. We placed an order for a dessert that we were told took 30 minutes to prepare. At 30 minutes the waiter came back and said “Sorry, I only just heard that we don’t have the ingredients.” So we change the order. We waited another 15 minutes. A different waiter came back and said “I’m so sorry we don’t have any of the ingredients for desserts.” Charged full price for dinner. What in the world.

Had a fantastic meal with my wife at at The Black lion, staff were lovely and the food was great all home cooked, we had the set menu which was great value the only down side was the crumble which seemed to be made with Alpen breakfast cereal which didn’t taste good at all but Everything else was lovely

Went for Sunday lunch Roast beef was delicious and plentiful the cauliflower cheese was excellent Will definitely be back Dog friendly which is also an added bonus lots of treats and water for the dogs Great selection of beers and wine Staff extremely helpful and attentive

Stopped off in Richmond whilst away camping, came to the black lion for Sunday lunch as a walk in with my partner and wow we are so glad we did! One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had out ever, if not the best! Would highly recommend, chicken was cooked to perfection

We had the quad room which was like a suite, it had a room with a double bed, a twin room & bathroom all within one space. Comfortable & clean beds we also ate in the restaurant & enjoyed our meals. Good choice at breakfast with cereals, toast & cooked choices

Checked in at 4.00pm. Advised food served 5.00pm to 9.00pm. Returned at 7.50pm to be informed no further "walk-ins" for meals because the "new chef" was struggling and people were already waiting 45 - 50 mins to be served. Pointed out that we were residents to no avail. Very tired and dated room furniture and decor - paint peeling off the walls. Not worth the £137.00 per night.
