The Castle Tavern Richmond

we stayed in the station room for 1 night. the pub staff were lovely and friendly, but we felt the room was really run down and needed some work even some paint would be enough. the bed was super comfy and the room was super spacious! we found the shower to be pretty naff! understandably it states they share a water tank and so to have a shower rather than a bath which wasn’t an issue but the water pressure was terrible and most of the shower trickled out which is annoying when you’re trying to rinse shampoo and conditional out of your hair. we also had someone’s old shower gel bottle left in the shower which wasn’t ideal but not a huge problem to moan about too much. the emergency lighting in the hallway between the bathroom and bedroom also doesn’t turn off and stays on all night which is a little annoying as had to sleep with bedroom door shut which was super stiff to open and close. wouldn’t rate no more than a 3 star for these reasons, but with some decorating it would’ve been higher.

We had a great overnight stay in Richmond at the Castle Tavern. The room could have done with a little TLC but we were informed a new carpet is being fitted next week. The staff were friendly and helpful and the Tavern is in a great location right on the main square. The parking is a bit of a faff but the staff will explain how it works. The traffic wardens are very keen,the last time I visited Richmond I got a ticket. This was because the signs are confusing so be careful. We also went to the Georgian theatre to see a show, which was a great experience. Overall I would say our stay was very good value for money and would recommend.

My friend and I enjoyed a fabulous Bottomless Brunch on a Saturday afternoon. On arrival, we were met with a friendly smile and shown to our table where a glass of Prosecco was brought over. We then enjoyed some fabulous cocktails, all beautifully made and decorated by Kelsie, and had a lovely "grazing platter" to enjoy too. A really fun afternoon and will definitely do it again in the future.

We went today, a party if 4, for food at lunchtime and we were not disappointed. Although there was a reduced selection available today our food was lovely, well presented and served quite quickly and lastly was very well priced. Our thanks go to Fiona who made us all welcome.

So this evening we went to the castle tavern in Richmond after a meal elsewhere for my birthday. A band was playing, mainly oasis songs. They were actually quite good as we had already discussed among us. Only half way in to our first drink the guy singing started shouting at us calling us jackanory and telling us to shut up talking followed by a load more of abuse and telling us to leave. This is a usual pub for us and never has anything of this nature happened before. We complained to the bar staff but not a lot really happened so we left. Never have I felt so uncomfortable in a pub as I did tonight. It’s a shame because I have always liked this pub but will not be going back.

Everything sort of as expected for what we paid but what wasn’t clear is that this quaint historic pub is now a rowdy disco style venue. The loud music/noise started maybe 6pm and ended towards midnight, it maybe didn’t help that our room was above the bar but it was not a restful night. I’m unsure how many nights a week this happens. The landlady was lovely and the volume did reduce slightly when we messaged about 10.30pm however I think it would be fairer to make it clear this is the style of the pub.
