Prospect Country House & Restaurant

Being local and having dined at Prospect Country House on two previous occasions, we were well aware of the high calibre cuisine and service on offer. As in-house guests, we were treated to a whole new level of excellence. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. The bathroom was cleverly laid out. Toilet and shower were both complete with doors (we love shower doors so water doesn't flood the bathroom and drafts are kept out!), there was under floor heating and, unusually these days, plenty of towels on offer. Dinner was as outstanding as our previous meals and the Continental breakfast was also a treat with Chef Kalpana's house-made granola, yoghurt and stone fruit compote being the stand-outs for us! David looked after us beautifully on arrival and during dinner and Kylie was a lovely, bright presence at breakfast and on check out. If you want country beauty without being isolated, a wonderful blend of traditional Georgian style and contemporary comfort, fine dining without the pretention, a top notch wine list (the property is owned by Pooley Wines), warm, friendly hospitality and an opportunity to really feel spoiled, you really can't go wrong at Prospect Country House!

Our stay here in Richmond was made so much more memorable due to the friendly efforts of Kylie, David, Lisa, Kolpana and Imogen. What a crew. (and Basil the fill in waiter aka John) Our room was spacious and well appointed, it was an easy walk downstairs to the restaurant, and nothing was a problem. The meals were superb yet surprisingly simple with choices from the main food groups. The wines were another level from Pooleys Wines which is associated with the venue. We would recommend doing the tasting and having the pizza lunch at the winery. The property is situated close to Hobart and many other attractions. Our focus was the food and wines of the area and we were not disappointed. We would highly recommend Prospect House as a destination.

We enjoyed two wonderful nights at this unique and stunning accommodation. Booking was simple, and management made regular and timely communications with me prior to our arrival, to ensure all was on track. We were met by Daniel when we arrived, who gave us a tour of the beautiful and historic property, and shared some wonderful stories. We enjoyed two sumptuous and very tasty breakfasts, and ate on one night in the dining room. Dinner was fantastic, very tasty and of high quality. Since the hotel was fairly quiet where we were there - there was only one other guest - we were fussed over and made to feel really special, due to Daniel's and Kylie's attentive behaviour and genuine kindness and friendliness. The room was exceptional, spacious, bed very comfortable, and the rain shower was a joy. We loved the opportunity to wander around the grounds in all their spring glory. And on top of all that, we really appreciated the free visit to Pooley's winery for a tasting. The hotel sits just on the edge of the pretty, historic and interesting town of Richmond, and only 20 minutes from the airport. We are very glad we selected this place. It is well worth treating yourself.
