Stayed over for two nights at the beginning of a little baltic country itinerary I made up. We arrived by local bus service from Riga airport and then walked to the hotel from the terminus, which was about twenty minutes (it looked a lot closer on google). We were greeted at reception by a very cheerful member of staff who completed all the formalities quickly, efficiently and warmly - a great first impression The reception desk is really just a podium in a self-serve style bar/snack/ seating area in what seems to be a growing "hub" style commonly seen these days. We were at the very end of a long corridor on the third floor. There is a lift, entry onto each corridor is only possible with your key card Our room was a studio and it looked out onto a rear courtyard area, pretty much no view at all, but for the two days it did not matter much. We had a tiny kitchenette where small meals could be prepared, a fridge for keeping drinks cool, a table and chairs for dining as well as a further adjustable table which could be used as a desk. The bathroom was very large and had a walk -in shower, toilet and sink with pump action toiletries available. A rail and free safety deposit box took up an alcove and that was pretty much the wardrobe. The decor of the room was really fresh and modern. It was a good base to explore Riga. Downstairs there is an adjoining bar/restaurant which can be accessed from reception or the street. It's a little pricey, but has a cosy vibe (despite the size) to people watch from. On the other side of the road is Hesburger if you want cheap fast food. We had breakfast there one morning and it was really good value. There is a supermarket called Rimi on the next corner up the street which is fairly good for all your needs if you are self catering. The hotel is classed as being in the centre, the thing I felt with Riga however was, there isn't really something I could pin down as being the centre. That said, we were able to walk quite easily to most of the tourist-type stuff there is to see and do. It isn't in the old town of Riga, so you may want to pick an alternative if you wish to spend most of your time there, but still walking distance. Lots of different food options nearby. I did like Lido which is a chain of buffet restaurants, good value and you can see what you fancy. It felt like most restaurants were kind of cafe culture, but overall there is something for most tastes in the area. We used the Bolt app for getting to a couple of places, and back to the airport - a lot easier and fairly cheap.
