Wedmore Place

Quiet place outside of the historic area, next to the Williamsburg Winery. Let's just say it's quirky. It is an old building with lots of creaks, old / antique furnishings and some pretty dated bathroom fixtures. Beds are comfortable and when you book, you can select your room (they're all different.) The breakfast buffet is nice, wines are available from the winery throughout your stay. There is no food service other than breakfast and the winery next door has limited hours. There is a pool (though not ready for guests in May.) Plentiful parking. The staff is generally friendly and helpful. One other thing: check in by 10PM or there is no one at the desk. We paid over $300 per night (plus taxes and fees) for what we expected to be a 1st class experience in Williamsburg. Our reservation included breakfast at this small inn which could have been wonderful had they put in any effort at all. Instead the breakfast fell short of what I would expect to be served at a budget hotel buffet., let alone a resort inn. It featured overcooked, dried-out cheese omelettes that appeared to be left over from the prior day(s), sausages that had been cooking since Monday (we were there on the weekend), and days-old quiche. An asian family sitting next to us spilled a drink as they were leaving. Rather than just clean up the mess quietly, the hostess and cleaning staff complained loudly about it a few feet from our table for all to hear. During our 1st night the temperature in our room was between 75-76 degrees, and adjusting the thermostat did nothing to change the temperature. The 2nd night after coming back from dinner the temperature in our room had climbed to 81 degrees (in December). Again, adjusting the thermostat did nothing. After my 2nd visit to the front desk we were offered to move to another room which we did. We had to pack our suitcases, laptop, toiletries, etc… and move ourselves to another room. When we checked out on Sunday morning, after suffering through the same overcooked cheese omelettes and sausages, we told the manager at the reception desk of the issue with our room. She said that she had heard about the issue and would let maintenance know of the issue, and apologized but said she was glad they had another room that we were able to move ourselves into. She offered us no accommodation on the full 1st class rate that we paid for a 3rd rate experience. My advice is to spend your money elsewhere.

Not a 4 star hotel. Room has mold on the ceilings and in tile in bathroom. Vents look like they haven’t been cleaned in 10 years or more. Staff was wonderful and did everything they could to make the stay great. Breakfast was similar to Hampton Inn except they serve you coffee. Hotel was VERY dated and many things need updated. Be aware if you are mobility challenged or not able to crawl into high tubs you might want to inquire what type of shower is in the room. Room 31 has a tub shower combo from the 70’s that is so high I had difficulties getting in and out of it (I’m 5 foot tall and 56 years old.) The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows are the size of travel pillows. Would not choose to stay here again until it is totally revamped.

Arrived at 940 pm. No staff present. Sign out front saying staff leaves after 10 pm. Manager on Duty number had no answer. After hours intercom rsng no one. Tried to get for 30 mi jtes to no avail. I hope they .ever have a real emergency because no one works there.

Wow 🤩 one of the most beautiful secluding feeling but only 7 miles to Busch gardens or downtown Williamsburg close to everything true winery with restaurant and tastings and shopping on site the hotel looks like a huge English manor house straight out of a movie with impeccable service and antiques a French restaurant for breakfast and a library , pool , spa ,, umm yes this place has everything..did I mention award winning wine out door dinners music and tasting flights free with room oh and each room is unique no two rooms are the same and for all that you would expect the price to be very high but it’s not .

We’re hoping our experience was due to recent change in ownership as we overheard at the winery, but I have to say, it was a bit disappointing. It has tremendous potential, but it really needs to be updated. You should probably make your customers aware that rooms (with fireplaces) will be musty and smell like an old hunting lodge. The furnishings were fine, and otherwise the room was clean, but those with allergies should be aware. Bathrooms should also be updated. Staff was trying really hard and were super nice and accommodating, but feel like the place just doesn’t have its act together for the price that you pay to stay there.
