Silver Sands

Silver Sands has been a staple stay for my family over 30 years, but I haven't been there since COVID in 2020. I assumed the swimming pool would still be there and my two daughters were extremely disappointed. It was too cold on the beach so swimming outside wasn't an option either. I wont trust pictures on Trip Adisor and other apps for current facilities.

Right on the beach, that's worth two stars by itself. The room was a throw back to the 70s which I was expecting by the photos we had seem. Nice having a kitchenette so we could make our meals most nights. This place has so much potential. If they would carry the Reno's to the bathroom through the rest of the room it would be great. Two words: fitted sheets. So much potential

These are (literally) beachfront rooms in an older motel. My room was upstairs and very clean. I bring my own bed linens and towels due to allergies so no issues there. I visited Rockaway just to hang out on the beach so the location was great. The folks at the front desk were friendly and helpful. And I booked through ******* - this was one of the least expensive beach front stays and there were no issues with the booking.

Made a reservation on their website on a Thursday evening and my card was charged, but I never got a confirmation email. So I called the next morning to confirm and was told I didn’t have a reservation. The woman I talked to was rude and unhelpful, she said I must have made a mistake as the room I had booked wasn’t available when I made the reservation anyway and I must have booked a hotel room somewhere else. We have stayed here before, it has a nice pool and is right on the beach but when the front desk is hateful it really ruins a stay. We will never stay here again.

Very outdated! The worst was the bedding. All needs to be thrown out!! The sheets were old and need to be thrown away. Thin and lots of pilling. They use a flat sheet that barely covers the mattress instead of a fitted sheet. (can see right through the sheet it is so old) I have seen other places that use a flat sheet, but this one didn't stay on the mattress while lying on it. Awful bedding! The most important part of a hotel room is the bedding. The pillows are old, and the room smelled. Granted it was a pet friendly room but the whole place felt dirty and uncomfortable. Like I wanted to leave and not sleep there. But I paid and we were tired, so we stayed. Never again. There are such small things that could be done just to make it feel updated and cozy, but it is like they just gave up. Great price and location but besides a clean bathroom the bed is the most important part of a hotel room in my opinion. I just had that creepy crawling feeling. Like I don't want to spend any time at all in this room. The lady at the counter didn't even give me directions to where the room was. Really need some revamping at this place. Sad because it's right on the beach.

I booked through ******* and got a good price for an ocean view room compared to many others in the area. There is an electrical box outside the window, but it only blocks the view of part of the beach. The room is pretty typical for the local beach motels - basic. Mattress was OK. Everything worked in the bathroom. Desk personnel are very cordial and efficient. Separate door leads right to the beach, and there's a chair outside the door where you can sit and watch waves, while being out of any wind out of the north, south, or east.

I can not recommend that anyone stay here. The room felt dirty even though it smelled heavily of cleaning products. Dated rooms are tolerable but at some point you have to replace the bedding. Very strange methods for getting new towels and room attention. There is no ventilation in the bathroom unless you open the window that is EYE LEVEL to the exterior hallway. We found the entire town to be a bust. Everything closed at 7 and the two breakfast options were at capacity all morning. Move on down the road for better options.

Absolutely worst place we’ve ever stayed. We rented two rooms for the weekend, and each room only had 1 towel despite asking for more. The toilet paper was gone from each room and never refilled even when asked. The bathtub was clogged and water just filled up taking a long time to drain. The rooms were visibly dirty upon entry. The staff did nothing about our complaints. The only told us to call and make a complaint and we’d be able to receive a refund. When I did call I was told all that was false and that we had never asked for anything. The man working the phones/front desk got confrontational and claimed we never brought anything to their attention.

I booked this hotel based on the photos and view. I was expecting a grand view of the ocean with the small outdoor porch with 2 chairs. The room I was given was at the end of the row close to the beach access and street. The room interior was good and clean. But the view and privacy was lacking. Not only did I have an ugly electrical unit with graffiti right outside my window I also had other guests walking right next to my front window. I had no privacy. I did have a side door but no patio and no chairs. The only plastic chair left was broken that someone left on the lawn. The high price of 230 dollars was not worth it.
