Sonder Trastevere

Getting to the unit, we were still pretty stoked. Then, when we arrived we found construction in the building's stairwell, that can't be helped or in Sonder's control. There was a tiny elevator we took turns traveling in. Once we arrived at the unit, we were still hopeful. Then we started to settle in & noticed many unfinished parts of the unit. There were white dust on the black stairs going up the bedroom & bathroom. The lamp shades on both the standing and the wall will not straighten even though we tried. Leftover spackle on the drywalls, we only took a photo of one area. One side of the door knob to the sliding doors in the bathroom kept popping out since the other side of the door knob is missing. Missing door in the closet doorway. Exposed screws in the shower where a shelf was planned for (hazard), an exposed plastic of what we think a toilet paper holder should be. There was a washer/dryer which was really, really nice. But no instructions. We googled and translated & Whats App Sonders to have it properly working. The springs of the beds sagged almost to the floor once you get in... so it's like you're in a hammock, but just uncomfortable. Dust and cobwebs in the ceiling and those are just some things we remembered. We didn't mind the noise outside, it wasn't as loud as some of the other reviewers experienced. But we were concerned about security. The main wooden doors to the building would not lock and there really is no need to use the pin pad near the door to access, just push the doors inward and they'll swing wide open. On the plus side, the unit is spacious enough for three people. The location is great and we were surrounded by restaurants and the area is cute. It's nice to be away from the heavy crowds near the central areas of Rome. The kitchen was really handy & we boiled water easily with the water kettle. The extra sink allowed us to wash up if the bathroom was occupied. We were hesitant to bring up the issues with Sonder because all three of us traveling are in customer service with one member in a high position at the Hyatt. However, we also didn't want to be responsible for the unit in the event it wasn't suppose to be in that state or manner. Via What's app and the Sonder app, we were assured this is not a common quality of Sonder & we were surprised our account was credited 300 euros. Thank you Sonder, we appreciated that gesture. So hopefully, the unit we stayed in has been fully refurbished, fixed & cleaned. We do recommend you contacting Sonder before checking in to make sure so your stay can be pleasant.

Be very careful with this company. I booked 2 apartments in Rome, via delle Fornaci, they took the full amount from my credit card and they cancelled the reservation from one day to the other. I am still waiting for a refund, they said maybe I will have my money back in 2 weeks?!!

Great location in the heart of Trastevere - updated and modern - extremely spacious - super clean. The bathrooms were the best I have ever experienced in Rome! A lot of hangers were provided in the closet too! The check-in process was simple and convenient. Any time I had questions, the chat feature in the Sonder app was easy to use, and a Sonder rep was always quick to respond. My only issue with the apartment itself was due to the air conditioning units … there was a remote to operate the larger unit downstairs but we weren’t exactly sure how to use it - directions would have been very helpful. There was a smaller air conditioning unit upstairs in the bedroom loft that I’m not sure if it worked or if we just weren’t doing it properly - again printed directions would have been very helpful. Also the building elevator was not functioning during our stay, and the one time we were told it worked, my husband used it and got stuck in it for 40 minutes! But all-in-all we were very satisfied with our stay, and we will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Rome.

Very nice apartment, few steps away from Ponte Milvio, the bridge. Having a coffee watching the river with musicians playing was priceless. Thanks Marco ragazzi for the hospitality hope to see you soon

The Sonder apartments in Trastevere are just delightful. The apartment itself felt really special. It was really clean on arrival and had everything we needed; fully equipped kitchen, comfortable bedding for the sofa bed and the loft bedroom, and 2 modern bathrooms (very useful!) with lovely products, as well as a social space. The Sonder team in Rome couldn't have been more helpful, they were friendly and attentive but not overpowering and everything worked like clockwork. There is also a handy luggage storage facility a few minutes away. It was the first time we had visited Rome and we were really pleased that we chose Trastevere, its a lovely area, not as busy as the centre with lots of winding streets with beautiful buildings. There are loads of local restaurants and bars, we ate locally every night and the food was fab! Our absolute favourite was La Scaletta in Via Della Scala. Then only negative was that there was building work going on the the block when we were there, but we were warned in advance and it wasn't intrusive.

Do not stay here!! We stayed as part of a honeymoon trip around Italy and it ruined it for us. The area is very rough and there is a large population of drug users and homeless people just around the corner (not safe at night to go down those roads). The accommodation is decorated nicely but is soooo noisy!!! The tram goes past from about 5am until 1am every day and about every 15-20 mins. It shakes the whole bedroom and we got no sleep at all. There is also a massive metal door that people use to come in and out of the complex and if you are in the end rooms like we were, any time someone comes in and out it makes a massive BOOM as it shuts behind them. We mentioned this to the accommodation and were given earplugs and a white noise machine. Ear plugs are uncomfortable at the best of time but neither worked as the boom of the door and the shake of the trams made it unbearable. We got a couple of hours sleep each night at best and it ruined out trip to Rome.
