Lion Sands River Lodge

Food Brilliant, Staff Brilliant, River Suite Brilliant. We have travelled to over 50 countries and stayed in varying degrees of Hotels and Luxury resorts, this was the best by far. First time doing a Safari experience. Won’t be the last and we will be going back to Lion Sands River Lodge. The reason we would go back, two reasons. 1. Guide (Cruz) 2. Tracker (George). In fact I call George the DECOY. You have no idea who you will get as your guide and tracker before you arrive on site. I will suggest if you are going to this utopia ask to have these two allocated to you. We rolled up Sunday 2pm went on our first safari drive at 4pm, Monday morning drive at 5.30 am. By the time we had done those two drives Cruz and George had taken us (found/tracked) the big 5. Unbelievable these two. We stayed for 4 nights over that time had 8 safari drives everyone we drove with these two we found animals. The knowledge they both have in regards not only the animals, bird life and local plants is just mind boggling. Both are genuine, friendly and really nice people. They are the reason we will return and not go to another safari location. I have no idea how much they get in the way of salary but I can tell the More family it ain’t enough. The jeep would stop, both these men would take a few leaves off a plant crush it up give it to my wife and I to smell it then explain the local traditional use of the plant. I’m serious if your going to River Lodge ask to be put with these two. They could find a flea on a Rhinoceros’s ass.

What an experience! Highlights included: Big 5 sightings plus so many other unbelievable views with our amazing guide Rector and our tracker Culture. Their deep knowledge, passion for the animals and hospitality is unparalleled. I can not say enough about how grateful we are for this dynamic duo. Accommodations - beautiful rooms, lovely views and service was too notch. Rodrick went above and beyond for our meals and we really enjoyed the gorgeous lodge for rest and relaxation between drives. Johnny from the creative lab took fantastic pictures that we cherish and our housekeepers Eugenie and Sindile made sure everything was clean, well-stocked and lovely. My husband and I can not wait to go back!

There are not enough things to say to explain the experience my mom and I shared at Lion Sands River Lodge. From the location, the rooms, the staff, the views, the spa, the game drives, the food- there is not a single thing I would change! From the second you get picked up from the airport, the staff makes you feel welcome, at home and a true part of their culture. The location also gives you a clear view of the river from your rooms and the dining deck, where we saw hippos, alligators and elephants. An elephant even wondered through the lodge! Nothing cooler than having them so close and a team around that ensures safety at the same time. Our butler Given was attentive and made sure every meal was shared with a laugh. Our game driver Themba was absolutely brilliant, hilarious and so passionate in everything he did. Our tracker, Jabu, could not have been better either! He showed us his skills and tricks and even wondered through the bush on foot tracking a Rhino to ensure we found the big five, and we did!! This trip will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life. I cannot wait to come back!

Lion Sands River Lodge completely exceeded all of our expectations! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by an exceptional team, with Mandrew standing out as an absolute superstar. His service and warmth truly made our stay unforgettable. The wildlife experiences were beyond anything we could have imagined — the diversity and proximity of the animals were nothing short of magical. Every detail was thoughtfully attended to, making this a stay we’ll cherish forever. A huge thank you to the entire team for making this trip so special!

We started our South African adventure at Lion Sands. From the moment we arrived we were surrounded by happy, smiling and the most extraordinarily dedicated people. We were escorted to our magnificent room, and then shown the various amenities of the room and the Lion Sands compound. At no time were we disappointed with Lion Sands. Our guide, Cruz, and his sidekick George the tracker, made each game drive fun, exciting, exhilarating and informative. They really know their stuff! The wildlife in Africa is amazing. The beauty of it all nearly took our breath away. Returning after a drive, we would be met by Cliff, our personal butler, who ensured we would have good eats and drinks, replete with smiles and laughter. Lots and lots of smiles! The men and women at Lion Sands never stopped smiling! The vibe was so good and so friendly, that we felt as if we had an extended family there. And let us not forget Darren, the manager, who could not have been more accommodating. And Joy...oh she is certainly a joy. And Mello made the entire food experience worthwhile. This wonderful crew made us feel as if we never wanted to leave. And we didn't want to. We could have stayed there forever. They made a special disco themed birthday party for my wife, since disco is her thing. They went above and beyond. Disco balls, flashing lights, and music! Then followed by dancing around a fire pit with African dancers. THIS was entertainment we never would have seen anyplace else....because the crew added the very personal touches. Because they care. After visiting many places after Lion Sands, and traveling through three other countries, I would give Lion Sands TEN stars, but can only give 5. They certainly have my vote as the best, nicest, and most accommodating and friendly game resort in South Africa. We are already planning our next trip, to include Lion Sands as our main attraction. Book a visit there. You will NEVER regret it, and you will never forget it!

The rooms are beautiful, well stocked and air conditioning was so welcome. The room was so well attended to , fresh towels several times a day! Complimentary laundry service was appreciated. Guide Rector and Tracker Culture were super friendly, and so accommodating. We had unforgettable sightings and experiences. Food was delicious and endless. 10/10
