El Tabora Guest House

Absolutely fantastic! I could not recommend this guest house highly enough. I stayed for one night on a business visit to Guernesey. The service provided by, and helpfulness of Colin and his team could not have been better. Extremely reasonably priced and amazingly helpful advice and service throughout my stay. If you are thinking of visiting Guernsey, which is beautiful, do it! If you are looking for somewhere that offers fantastic service at a decent price, this is it.

Wow! Colin was an amazing host and so attentive. Due to me swimming in an international masters swimming competition, I asked for porridge. The first day i brought my own blueberries down to breakfast, the next day, Colin had provided the blueberries!! He was generally so interested in my weekend and asked each day how I had got on. The room provided a fridge and a microwave and the shared bathroom was always clean and spotless. Nothing was too much trouble. I have now requested another booking for next year.

This is a rather wonderful old-fashioned guesthouse, run by a lovely man, Colin. I would highly recommend. The room and was comfortable and homely. It wasn’t huge but certainly large enough if you’re using it mainly as a place to sleep. Though it is dated, I wouldn’t agree it is basic. Alongside a hairdryer and kettle (often not provided in budget hotels), there’s also a microwave and mini-fridge. This is especially helpful if you’re travelling alone or on a budget. The supermarket is only about a 5 min walk away so very easy to do your own meals. Though you’re sharing a bathroom, it’s only with a couple of rooms. There’s a sink in the bedroom too. Another review mentioned struggling with shower temperature but this seems to be fixed; I had no issue getting the shower to the perfect temperature. Colin is a superb host. He’s full of knowledge of the island and came up with some great recommendations. He’s also very kind; I didn’t have room in my suitcase to pack my big sunhat and he immediately offered me his! The breakfast was good and plentiful (with a number of options), all included in the price. The location is decent. It’s a 25 min walk to the town centre or a frequent (every 15 mins I think) bus service leaving from close to the hostel. The area is quiet and residential so no noise issues and there’s a local pub a few mins walk away. It should be said that this is a two star guesthouse and that I’m considering this and the exceptional price whilst writing the review. If you want luxury, this won’t be for you, but I certainly hope to return!

Stayed here for 3 nights end of July 22. Located very short bus ride (Bus 41) £1.25 from town or £10 taxi. Located near food shops and a pub called The Doghouse that serves food, drinks and has evening entertainment. Was greeted by Colin, the host, who is very polite, clearly spoken, knowledgeable and explained everything we needed to know about the B&B and local area. The single rooms are small but perfect to rest your head, with a sink, microwave, mini fridge, storage and very comfy beds. The twin rooms are larger. This is a shared bathroom accommodation but is priced as the cheapest on the island at only £32pppn. The breakfast is included and for the price is very good! Colin takes your order daily and there are many various options of cold, continental and full cooked breakfasts. We were stuck for taxis (hard to book) and Colin helped us out by giving us a lift on a few occasions and we compensated him financially (where else would you get that service!?). I even had a mishap and broke my foot and Colin took me to and collected me from A&E on a Sunday! First class customer service. All in all you can’t fault Colin, his customer care, his one staff member who assists in cooking, the location and comfort and cost! Rooms are a little dated but that’s expected in a 2 star hotel but with a 5 star customer focused business, I will be returning with other groups and thank you once again Colin and hope you enjoyed your night off with wine! 5 STARS!
