Bluebeard's Castle Resort

This was our first hotel at the USVI. Great location and views, good service. Poolside bar and restaurant deserve visiting

The hotel Exceeded my expectations. Our room was clean and comfortable. We stayed at the Hilltop Villas II. The restaurant and pool bar experience in terms of food quality and service was very nice. Seems to be that the hotel was recently renovated and all areas all very clean and well maintained. All of the hotel staff we related to were very friendly and ready to serve. We had an issue during checking originated by contracting terms between the hotel and *******, but Camile handled the issue very professionally and took GREAT care of us during the process, we felt confident and safe on getting the problem solved. Had another wonderful week at the Castle. Have owned here for 25 years. It is an incredible location with amazing views from the room and the pool deck. This is a unique old property surrounding a 17th Century Castle tower. Just walking the grounds is an interesting experience. Hang out at the pool bar. Jay and Lisa are phenomenal and the food and drinks are great. Tour the tower. Shawn has amazing stories about the history of the relics you will find there. Hang out on the pool deck, relax and swim or take a short ride in a cab to the top rated Megans Bay Beach. The fascinating old city is a short walk down the hill. So much to see there. We never grow tired of coming to Bluebeards Castle.

It’s a lovely, historic low-key resort. Very well maintained, with very friendly and helpful staff, and a great restaurant. We were in a studio in the East Castle Villas III building, with a great view of Havensight Harbor from our deck. The room was clean and comfortable, with good AC and fan over the bed. Bathroom small, but had everything we needed, including walk-in shower, sink vanity with drawers and storage enough for two, Plenty of towels provided, including two beach towels. Our unit had a small kitchenette — mini fridge with a larger than usual freezer; small sink; two-burner range; and microwave. Also a small utility cart on wheels containing plates, bowls, glasses and silverware for four, plus utensils. On top we had a four-slice toaster and standard drip coffeemaker with small basket of coffee packets. (Wish they had Keurig- type coffeemaker, as we don’t drink a lot of coffee, and single-serve capsules would have been more convenient. But we brought single-serve instant coffee packets, which were fine.) If you plan to book here, DO get an understanding of the layout/logistics of the different buildings, and what elevation (level) your room will be in relationship to the main building/restaurant/pool deck, and where your car may be parked if you are renting or where you would meet a taxi. Because the maps don’t indicate how everything here is built on a hill, and thst building floor levels can be deceptive. We were on the third floor of East Villas III … which actually is on the “walk out” level to get to the main building entrance and restaurant. (If your room is on the first floor, or second, a steep set of stairs must be climbed — there is no elevator in this building … or most of the others.) But that’s part of the historic nature of this property. There are small outdoor lifts to take you up down the various levels to the restaurant/pool area, and to the parking spaces at the entrance. But not inside the buildings, except for Hilltop II, I believe. Just be aware that there are many different levels to this property … and be prepared to deal with them when you book. There is a great staff available on call to pick you up in golf carts and take you where you need to go on the prooerty. So if you are staying on the bottom level of the East Villas III, for instance, you can just call and get a golf cart to pick you up and drive you to and from the main level if you don’t want to navigate the steps. Bluebeard’s is very centrally located — convenient to all that is available in Charlotte Amalie … by car. Only those incredibly fit would consider Bluebeard’s to be within “walking distance” of anything. It’s up a very steep grade, and there are no sidewalks. But this is the case almost everywhere on St Thomas — it is not a place for doing much walking, unless in a shopping district or on a beach. Bluebeard's was an excellent choice for us. I will state that you really want a rental car for staying there though. There are not any beaches particularly close. We were aware of that when booking and the taxis can rack up fees on your stay quickly! The resort was nice and comfortable. We had a 1 bedroom unit. All appliances worked perfectly, including the washer and dryer, which is a game changer on a longer trip. Staff was friendly and the onsite restaurant was very good. Would happily recommend friend and family to stay there.

We had a great time. View of the harbor from the room was awesome. Beds were comfortable. We had no negative issues. Live music on a few nights too.
