Victoria Lodge Guest House

I'm staying here on secondment with work and I love it here. Comfortable bed, lovely walk-in shower, always hot water. Desk & chair, drawers, little wardrobe, plenty of room for me. Beautiful house, love the ivy right now, very pretty. Always clean, housekeeping fantastic, tea/ coffee replenished daily as well as towels as required. Caroline, Carol, Wendy & Doug all take amazing care of me & are friendly & cheerful. Laundry facilities available, plenty of places for breakfast within a short walking distance, some very nice places for dinner as well. Car parking available, which is really handy. It is near a main road but the traffic is only noticeable during rush hour, I've never had a problem sleeping. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Salisbury where you get treated well, this is the place. Thank you.

Victoria Lodge is located on the main Castle Road into Salisbury. It is a 15 minute walk from the centre of the city, and a 5 minute walk to the Five Rivers Lesiure centre which has a 25 m swimming pool (open from 7am). The property has free car parking and the owner was kind enough to allow us to leave our car there on the day we checked out until 4 pm. The property is a large guest house and our room (Number 1) at the front was small and suffered from traffic noise from the road. It had a 5 foot double bed with a heavy quilt on it - too hot for summer months! The bathroom was a good size with a good shower, toilet and washbasin. The room had a bit of hanging space, a small TV screen, tea and coffee facilities (with biscuits!) and a small chair. But it was cramped. The wifi was also poor in our room and there was no desk or surface to owrk from. Also the room was 'tired' and needed a fresh carpet, bed linen and fittings, in my opinion. We spoke to the owner about this and to her credit she acknowledged that she would like to spend more money on the place but said 'with 15% of my revenue going to ***********, I don't have the spare cash to do so.' She openly advertises lower rates on her website and in the hotel. We paid through *********** and paid £105 for a bed - but no breakfast. 'We stopped doing breakfast during the pandemic', the owner said. 'And we decided not to start in order to reduce costs'. I would like to have given this guest house a higher rating. It was clean, in a good location and the owner was both helpful and pleasant. But the place was a bit 'tired' and in need of some refurbishment. And the room was small and cramped. I acknowledge that the price might have been low compared to other Salisbury prices, but I was a bit disappointed with value for the money I spent.

Stayed one night and barely slept - mattress in single room was what I would imagine sleeping on a park bench would be like (but without the view). Bedding looked clean - as room appeared to be but towels tatty and smelt fusty. Disappointed no breakfast available.

Within walking distance to the high street of town, and with free parking at the hotel, it was possible to walk to the shops and restaurants in town centre. A clean and decent size room (I had a single room on the ground floor), with stable wifi access. Friendly and helpful staff. All in all a very pleasant stay, would recommend to others.
