Hotel la Montaña San Gil

We visited the hotel twice within a week. The hotel is situated just off the main highway, up on a hill. Close enough to be convenient, but far enough away that the noise from traffic is light. The rooms are at a higher level with the pool, spa and restaurant below. What really overwhelmed us was the amazing service by the staff, something that is not often seen in Colombia. Anything that needed to be corrected was done so immediately and with a great attitude. The rooms are on two levels. The lower lever rooms are not as nice, but have air conditioning. The second level rooms are much nicer, with high wood ceilings and a balcony, but no air. At night this is not an issue as the breeze and fans work fine. There are no mosquitoes and few bugs in the area so open windows or being on the balcony were enjoyable. For some (like us) the beds might be too hard, but the staff were quick to change the mattresses to a softer option. The pool is clean and pretty, although the hot tub was not warm enough in our opinion. Lastly we really enjoyed the food at the restaurant. Well seasoned, good portions and at prices that are equal to any restaurant in the area. Even the mini bar (water, chips, etc) are at prices similar to the corner store. They don't take advantage of their guests like most hotels As seasoned budget travellers, we are hard to impress, but these folks did it well.
