Grand Hotel Cocumella

Cocumella is a place that reminds me of what elegant hotels were like, timeless. With hotels catering for larger and larger audiences, the essence of hospitality has been forgotten. This hotel, Cocumella is an experience and one which is emotional and peaceful; from the rooms to the botanic gardens or even a reflective platform overlooking the sea. The feeling of welcome each evening we returned from Sorrento Town was very personal and connected. We never felt like a number, but were made to always feel like a special guest - likened to coming home to friends. Especially Guiseppe, the concierge who has been here for 30 years, gives you his knowledge and experience on what trips might be available and good restaurants to go to. A welcoming face who always seems to take interest in your day. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, intimate, peaceful but also located well for exploration.

We did not stay at the hotel itself but had three evenings in the very nice bar area. David and Gennaro was friendly, service-minded with a very personal twist, and the drinks were great ! Highly recommended ! Jan, wife and friends, from Sweden

If you're looking for a warm, luxurious old school hotel with charactar where the staff makes you feel like family then this is the place. It is quiet and definitely not a scene but perfectly positioned to enjoy the sights in Sorrento, Naples / Pompeii and the Amalfi coast. It's rooms are extremely comfortable, the food is amazing, the gardens are beautiful, the pool is huge, the views of the sea are spectacular and they event have a dock / small beach but what REALLY makes this place special are it's staff. They are warm, welcoming and go the extra mile for their guests. I really can't praise them enough. They made our initial stay so good that after a few nights in Ravello we chose to return to the hotel to celebrate my wife's birthday instead of staying somewhere new. We left feeling like we were part of some sort of family and can't wait to visit again. We are fortunate that we have experienced many luxury hotels around the world but only a few stick in our memory. This is one of them.

Very nice place but a four star hotel:…Lovely grounds and spacious junior suite oftset by 1.smoke wafting into main hotel (so move smoking area!) 2.there isnt always a person at the front desk or concierge 3.phone system broken 4.staffing somewhat uneven 5.wacky situation at waterfront results in TSA precheck style different lines on the dock for the hotel chairs ve public beach. I was about to pay to use the dock but figured out at the last minute that i didn’t have to. If they can fix half of theses things, would consider a five star. Hotel should tell staff not to take/have personal phone calls while guests are waiting.

We stayed here for three nights in late June, as a stage on our road trip from Rome to Sicily. Our agent had booked our accommodation for us and we were absolutely delighted with the Grand Hotel Cocumella! We received a very warm and friendly welcome from the staff on arrival, and were quickly shown to our spacious room, which was very clean and inviting, with a huge, comfortable, bed. The thick walls and solid doors in this lovely building make it easy to get a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel is a villa style property, beautifully located overlooking the stunning Bay of Naples, with views towards the distant city and Mount Vesuvius. It has lovely gardens, containing orange and lemon trees, which lead down to the clifftop above the water, and to the terrace restaurant, Coku. There is a large, well - maintained, and very clean swimming pool in the grounds with a bar area and plenty of shady areas to stay cool surrounding it, or sunny spots for sun-worshippers. Although we didn't use it, there is a tennis court, with equipment available at the desk. The breakfast room is inside the main building and is a lovely bright room, with plenty of space. The food selection at breakfast is really excellent - a mix of buffet-style and made to order dishes if you wish. There are three restaurants at the hotel - our choice was Coku, because of its position overlooking the sea, and also for the great quality fusion menu! We chose to eat at Coku each night of our stay simply because we enjoyed the food so much, and because the staff were unfailingly helpful, friendly, and very efficient. They seemed to know exactly when we were ready for our next course, or if we needed anything, but were not at all intrusive - just what you want. The other highlights of Coku are its beautiful location and truly stunning sunsets! All of the hotel staff we met were incredibly helpful and efficient - most spoke perfect English (far better than our Italian!), and we felt very welcome guests. The service levels are as good as you would hope for - for example, the very useful shuttle into Sorrento centre is available on request. Just ask at the desk and it will take you into town, or come and collect you if you call the hotel. We loved this hotel, and recommend it to anyone visiting the Sorrento area. There is a rail station nearby if you want to take the train to Pompeii, and there are ferries to Capri, Amalfi, and numerous other destinations available at the port.

A lovely hotel in a great location. With fantastic staff. The hotel is well appointed, and the hotel staff is so accommodating. Guiseppe can secure ferry tickets for you. Nicola runs the shuttle bus to and from the depot making it easy to get in and out of town. Michael and David are excelled wait staff, and remember us every night. The pool is nice and quiet. The beach, while small was perfect, and if you didn’t like the beach, there was a dock for sunbathing that also had access to the water. Be sure to bring swim shoes! The included breakfast was fantastic with fresh baked cakes and pastries as well as a selection of meats and cheeses. Nightly turn down service included some nice touches. This hotel is a great home base for daily excursions to the rest of the region. 10/10 would stay here again!
