Melia Dunas Beach Resort & Spa

Firstly we were at this hotel last year for a week and absolutely loved it. We paid for ‘the Level’ which gave you the premium drinks and use of facilities in some of the other Melia hotels. You were also in the main building and the room was fabulous. It also included an exclusive Level pool and breakfast areas and we had a great time. However, we did not have the same experience this year. Again we took out ‘the Level’ package paying over 4k for 2 weeks. We waited in reception for over an hour before check-in. We were then directed to the level reception to get our room key and we then found out we didn’t have the same privileges as last year. However, if we paid €30 each per day we could use the other hotels for being a VIP. Absolutely ridiculous. Total rip off. Our room was awful. It was in the main building but we were facing the main road and the room was not spacious and open plan like last years pool view we had. It was dark and dingey. The first impressions were not good. But we thought we would see how it would go. I’m so glad we didn’t unpack. Within an hour we found several issues. Lights in the sitting room were out, the hairdryer didn’t work, cobwebs all around the lights and in the corners of the room. The shower tray blocked and my husband had to use his palm as a plunger to let the water drain, the same happened to one of the sinks, no drinking water in the room (took 3 visits to the reception and 24hrs later to get some) but the final straw came when I opened the bedside drawer to find a dirty pair of socks and an old razor were in there. After 48hrs in that awful room we were moved after my daughter emailed TUI in the UK. We still had the premium drinks but that was a waste. As a gin drinker they ran out of Gordon’s and beefeater gin by the Wednesday we only got there on the Monday. No more until the following Tuesday in any of the bars. Unless we got up before 7 we could get a bed in the level pool area. The whole place is tired and the service was dreadful. Food was mediocre at least. A la carte were poor. Tiny portions and feeling hungry in an evening as there are no snacks an available at night. We definitely won’t be back.

The hotel is advertised with Love Holidays as a 5 star. It is at best only a 3. The whole hotel is tired and run down. The beach is scruffy and lots of cigarette buts on the beach. The sunbeds are not fit for purpose and the umbrella that goes with them are thread bare and offer no shade whatsoever. Some people had to wait 7 hours before getting into their room. Food is not fit for purpose and food in main restaurant was always cold. The main swimming pool had at one time some sort of main fountain. This was broken and dangerous for children. And my alacarte tandoori chicken was a chicken leg in a ramkin dish with a bit of sauce in the bottom. This could be so much better.Dont be fooled by any holiday company it is not 5 star.

Good points were the weather here, amazing sunsets & beautiful beach, lots of pools to choose from & lovely gardens & large rooms. The hotel itself is very large. Free Wifi. Bikini beach section was great but not included in the all inclusive deal. Bad : much like other reviewers we both got poorly stomachs, our towels & a bag with suncream in were removed/stolen from the pool on day 2 and none of the staff seemed overly bothered - we didn’t get them back even after reporting it at reception & to the pool bar staff. Some staff were friendly but others not so much. Huge queues to book the restaurants & not much info given upon checking in (a QR code gives u the info on the hotel). We arrived about 3.30pm & room wasn’t ready for another hour. I would visit Sal again but perhaps not this hotel.

This hotel is dirty, 3 * at the very best, check in was a nightmare the staff are miserable and unhelpful and the Tui rep is useless. The room is dirty, the safety box doesn't work, the blinds in the room don't open and the shower fell off the wall broken and hit my head. We have to get water from reception as cleaners only come to room every 3 days if you are lucky. Don't try to get bottled water for your room from the bar as they will charge you. The food is very poor, lots of people with poorly tummy. We are actually stuck here at the moment and Tui are not helping to move us. Stay away

Unfortunately we are about to leave this wonderfully friendly place. The staff make this hotel a wee gem. But on the downside it seriously needs some fabric and fixtures upgrade to take place. It could be soooooo much more. Special mention to the staff at signori, gabi beach bar and the wonderful staff who provide room services and support ‍♂️

We are in room 5074 for all inclusive We would expect some soft drinks in fridge first hotel not doing this that we have stayed.Room big so many spaces for clothes shame not a walk in shower.Food very good had a Indian last night totally different from newcastle but very good waitets were lovely and girl on desk
