Villa Maria Tayrona, Jungle and Sea Experience

We were birdwatching on the road that passes Villa Maria one morning and decided to stop in for drinks on our way back towards town. We were warmly welcomed and greeted by Cristiano who made sure we were seated with good views of the hotel gardens and the hummingbird feeder in the restaurant. We enjoyed some cold drinks and empanadas which were delicious. Even though we just stopped in to check out the place, Cristiano repeatedly offered to show us around and even introduced us to their resident macaw, Lila. We took him up on a tour of the property and got to see a couple of the bungalows/rooms which were all amazing with beautiful views of the turquoise Caribbean sea. The surrounding gardens are amazing, and you can follow a beautiful foot path down to Los Cocos beach. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy some R&R off the beaten path, yet in close proximity to Tayrona NP. Just WOW! Simply spectacular experience from beginning to end. It's a beautiful place with amazing, kind and warm people. Cristiano, the manager, was so welcoming and treated us like family. Camillo was super nice and personal with us and our kids. Lady the waitress and all staff were truly wonderful and can't compliment them enough. The resort itself is Heaven on Earth and SO beautiful, magical and peacful. The pool was beautiful and refreshing and the rooms were luxurious with stunning views of the jungle and sea. Leela the beautiful colorful Parrot was so amazing and communicated with my kids - they loved her! Vanessa at the front desk was so welcoming and great with information. We give this a 5 STAR only because 10 wasn't an option. We will miss you all! To be in nature while having so much luxury was very special and we highly recommend. Also, the food was incredibly delicious. Our best stay in Colombia so far!

This place is wonderful, it is a hidden jewel in Santa Marta, Tayrona area. We reserved the deluxe bungaló #17 which has an amazing view of the ocean and you feel you are at the trees canopy. The units have AC that works super and a beautiful bed with mosquito net that takes you back to the early 1900 hundreds. You find hot water and cold water for showers. Staff is amazing , Cristiano the Manager along with Camilo and their wonderful staff make sure that we are pampered. The pool area awesome secluded with hammocks, the dining area is so romantic and all constructed using bamboo material very original. The bar and restaurant are part of the original house which I was told it is 200 years old with 2 foot thick walls. Food , snacks, cocktails, and beverages are fantastic, OMG natural home made juices, Pura Vida, and we think prices are fair and reasonable !! There is private and safe shuttle transportation, also public transportation if you need as well. The beach OMG, at just five minutes walking from the hotel in middle of flowers and fruit trees !!! Lila the macaw, it is beauty and she repeats numerous words in Spanish like Hola and whistles. This is nature at its best and with all the conforts. Come and stay here you will not have regrets. After touring other much busier parts of Colombia, our three nights in Villa Maria were the perfect opportunity to relax. The chalets are very comfortable and ours, number 5, had a sea view. The beach is very uncrowded and while you can't swim in those impressive waves, you can still cool down in the waters. I find the comments relating to topography of the area somewhat ridiculous. The resort is on a steep hillside and thus there are many steps. If you have mobility or general health problems, stay away. Other comments about the food surprised me too. It was absolutely delicious and for a remote, countryside venue, quite sophisticated. With a very reasonably priced winelist. Our single problem was quickly resolved. One night, some termites entered the bathroom via the ceiling and deposited some dust and live termites. We reported this and it was resolved on the same morning with a bunch of flowers and apology left in the chalet. We would happily recommend this resort.

Stayed at the Villa Maria in 2017 and loved the place. Can say that I would still highly recommend it. The settting is great, surrounded by jungle and then just a short walk to the beach. Room, food and staff were all great. Easy to get to and a 20 -25 minute walk to Tayrona N.P. Wi

An excellent 4 day stay in Northern Colombia in a hotel that mixes a hotel with a unique jungle experience. Rooms are individual tree houses around a central reception and dining area and are well appointed and comfortable. Staff and manager ( Christiano) were friendly, helpful and professional and made the stay additionally enjoyable. Would be 5 stars but food was good quality but lacked some finesse - manager is aware and aims to improve this area.

We stayed here for 3 nights and although the place is beautiful, I felt it was really expensive for what it is. Breakfast, coffee, and food here are too below par. The service needs better service training, although I have to say that everyone was really polite. Location wise was a good place to visit Tayrona, and room hygiene was good.

The hotel is located perfectly close enough to Tayrona, but far enough for some peace and quiet. The staff is friendly and super welcoming. We visited during the “off-season” and were probably 2 of the only guests they had on some nights. The hotel is beautiful. The grounds are in perfect harmony with nature and very well maintained. Keep in mind that all this nature comes at a cost. The hotel grounds is a series of stairs and walkways which all feel and mostly are uphill, so therefore, this place might not be ideal for you if you have mobility issues. The ocean view bungalow was phenomenal. It’s perched on the highest point of the hotel and has a partial view of the ocean which blends nicely into the blue skies. So it’s really not a tropical beach view, but we found it very relaxing. The bed was very comfortable and the AC a welcome retreated after a hot/humid out. The breakfast was cooked fresh daily and the coffee was probably the best we’ve had in Colombia. Lila, the resident blue Papagayo is entertaining. Best part of staying here, is the peace and quiet and being surrounded by nature. The path to the beach is great with beautiful butterflies and tons of fruit trees. They also have a chicken coop and a resident peacock or two. What an amazing place. We certainly will be back!!

Had a four night stay. Wonderful location , it truly is in the jungle. Had monkeys in the trees one evening. Lots and I mean LOTS of steps. So no good if limited mobility. Pool OK although floor wasn’t clean. Local beach has a nice restaurant, had a truly delicious fish stew there. So now the bad things. Safe never worked despite asking more than once. Rubbish bags left by steps. Shower was hot but a bit old and dated and lots of jets blocked. Coffee machine and cups in room but no coffee pods. Heard them telling another guest they had run out. Would have been nice to have been told. Water had to be bought, top tip go to the shops at the turn off to the hotel much cheaper. Access via beach path. Breakfast was good but no changes allowed had to buy extras. Four choices plus fruit and a drink. Staff put up with our very poor Spanish with good grace so thanks to them for that. Food was good and not too expensive given you are basically stuck there unless you get the bus along the main road. Just a few changes and it could be really splendid.
