Stayed here for one night while walking the Borders Abbeys Way. You have to really view this as a guest house rather than a full blown hotel. It may look like a hotel and may have been one in the past, but the current owners are basically operating it as a guest house (and have been doing so for 22 years, apparently). So, you won't get full hotel facilities. For example there is no restaurant, though they do one hot dish a day which you have to pre-order if you want it. There is a bar, though for residents only and, I think, limited hours. You have to order your breakfast the night before. These are all measures taken, I imagine, to keep costs trimmed and to turn a profit, which you'd imagine would not be possible were the operators trying to run a full-scale hotel. Keep these points in mind and you'll not go wrong here. It's about a 10 minute walk into town, where there is a limited choice of restaurants. There's also a good baker which will make you up a filled roll of your choice if you need a packed lunch for walking. There is a nice garden outside where you can enjoy a pint of foaming ale or whatever your poison is after a hard day's walking. The rooms are absolutely fine, spotless and containing everything you might need. The bathrooms were very clean and fresh and have obviously been modernised in recent times. Breakfast (pre-ordered) came quickly and was hot and tasty. Overall, I would say the Glen is a well-run establishment and would recommend it.
