Thorn Tree Tented Camp

ThornTree Camp in Serengeti was an amazing place we stayed at during our 8 days safari with Tanzania Horizon Safaris. The camp was like a cozy home in the middle of the Serengeti. The tents were big and comfy, and I felt like I was sleeping in a comfy bed surrounded by nature. The best part was waking up to the sounds of birds and animals. It was a real adventure and exactly what we were looking for. I enjoyed reading some books about wildlife while my family was still asleep. The camp staff was super friendly and always ready to help. They made sure we had everything we needed and even shared interesting stories about the animals in the area. The food was delicious! I tried some local dishes, and they were so tasty. It was like having a little food adventure every day. The campfire at night was my favorite. We sat around, shared stories, and looked at the stars. It was magical!

Particularly our stay at ThornTree Camp in the Central Serengeti, was a very pleasant stay with untamed beauty. The camp's seamless integration into the natural surroundings provided a perfect haven after long game drives. ThornTree Camp offers spacious and comfirtable tents and a wonderful service, exceeded our expectations, offering a blend of comfort and authenticity. The heart of the Serengeti unfolded before us during our time in Central Serengeti. Tanzania Horizon Safaris, guided by the ever-knowledgeable Sabas, organized game drives that felt like curated adventures. The diversity of the Serengeti's inhabitants, from majestic lions to agile cheetahs, left us speechless. The commitment to responsible tourism and conservation practices showcased the Camps and the company's dedication to preserving the pristine wilderness.

Compared to the other lodges we stayed in this was pretty average, however it’s unique location with no fences surrounding it made for an interesting stay. The staff were clearly newish and quite nervous of us. I asked for some ice which caused a stir as they only had a few small containers in the top of the fridge which left none for the other guests (I wasn’t aware of this till later when we asked for G&T’s after dinner and they couldn’t make them due to lack of ice!!!!!) The buffet in the evening was very average with not enough choice but we made the best of it as we were only there overnight. Would I recommend staying here…not really there are much better places nearby but if you like rustic this would be for you..

Our first day in the Serengeti and we are sleeping in TornTree camp. This was so so so nice. Warm welcome by the crew. The camp was set up beautiful. The tents were amazing, we were able to load our batteries by the tent, this was very nice. The crew was perfect. The view was great, we could sit in the tent and look at the stars, wauw what an nice experience we had. In the night we heard all kind of animals around our tent, that was so cool!!

Reasonable experience, but tents (specifically the dining tent) can get some refurbishment after 7 years at this place and staff quite inattentive. Compared to GNU Camp where we stayed the nights before quite a step back in quality and staff friendliness. Sleeping tent still pretty okay.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night during our safari. The food was good, the service was fantastic, and the room was quite nice. Even though it's a tent, the room had a separate entry area, main bedroom, and separate bathroom with toilet and shower. Wifi only worked in the main building but that was a common thing in the area. The sunrise in the morning was breathtaking!
