Imagine you arrive for your 8 day vacation. Condo isn’t perfect but anymore rentals are rarely actually clean clean and the property is nice with ample parking. You unload and get settled but it’s late. The next morning one of your group wakes with what is thought to be hives as this person has a history of stress related hives, so you don’t think much about it. That night you discover it’s not hives at all but bedbugs! You immediately call the emergency number for Jackson Mountain Rental freaking out because you’ve never dealt with bedbugs. They tell you there is nothing they will do until it’s confirmed by a professional! Now it’s 10 pm. You throw everything you can do without, pillows, blankets, everything, out on the balcony, seal the room off as best you can, wash and dry enough to make up the sofa bed and also the one room least populated by the bugs, and you have to sleep there because they will not move you. You finally get to lay down about 2 am. They lie and tell you no rooms are open. You list off empty room numbers because you have looked. They reply that those aren’t their units to rent. Also a lie as I was able to produce an ad for one I had looked at that was listed by them and currently empty. They follow with “well they are rented later in the week so we can’t move you there”. The next day you had plans with the group you are there with, so you get up and go. Intermittent service made email the mode of most communication after missed calls but they do send a “professional” to inspect the room we had sealed off. Sure enough bedbugs. Now they say we have to vacate the next day for 12 hours while they treat the room. Then they say 24 hours. Then they say we have to leave and they can find us accommodations. Ok, find me a 2 bdrm, 2 bath, with kitchen and trailer parking in or near pigeon forge this week, July 4th week. Oh wait, they can’t, nothing us available! Ok so we can leave and they will refund for nights not stayed. What?!?! I find another room across the parking lot listed on vrbo but it’s not available until the day after tomorrow, so can we stay one more night? I mean if my things are infested they are already infested right? Nope, won’t do that either. By now I’ve spent $200 on mattress bags and cleaning supplies and I’ve sent them the receipt, I’ve even pointed out how completely irresponsible it is to send T’s anywhere else at this point in the game! We even offered to stay the whole time we were supposed to and asked for nothing except the cleaning items be reimbursed. Very generous I thought. Nope. We simply had to leave. Nowhere to go but home. I missed the parade and the fireworks, had two full nights until 1 and 2 am cleaning and disinfecting, and was told we had to leave. They did say they would refund my entire stay, as they should!, but I haven’t seen it yet. We only got home late last night though.
