Xin Hui City Hotel (Shanghai Railway Station Changshou Road Subway Station Branch)

Hotel is located in a very good area with lots to do, room was small but clean, service also very good and everyone very polite. The room doesnt have a fridge but there is a big one outside and people can use it. Laundry was very convenient. If looking for good, clean and cheap, this is a good option.

Absolute disaster! Staying in Shanghai can be a bit pricey but I figured the hotel would be clean and couldn’t be that bad. It smells strongly of smoke and mold and the service is highly mediocre. The rooms are incredibly tiny and the walls are stained, with no windows. You feel like you are in prison. There is little privacy and the hotel feels seedy. When walking around, you can see dozens of doors open with dirty rooms. In fact, when we were led to our room, the door was wide open. I guess this is how they do their cleaning process but it’s strange and not conducive to privacy or cleanliness. I found a bug in the bathroom. The AC in my room was broken and it was extremely hot. When I discussed this with the front desk, they asked me why I had not approached them about the AC sooner (I told them it’s because I had to take my travel counterpart to the hospital. True story). A woman was kind enough to help us switch rooms but it was a big hassle and annoying. They did not offer to upgrade us. Not to mention the hotel is organized disastrously and it is literally impossible to find your room in the insane maze. If you dare to stay here, you will regret it and understand what I mean. The signage is very poor. It was incredibly expensive and set a depressing and disappointing tone to my trip in Shanghai.
