The location of the hostel is great, staff was friendly as well and I was able to store my luggage; there is free water from the dispenser available too. As such, it could be an okay place to stay for a night. Unfortunately, however, the bed did not really have a mattress (rather just some layers of sort of blankets upon plain wood) and I had to find multiple bed bugs which obviously made it impossible to sleep. It also happens to be the second time that I encounter bed bugs in one of the Dengba Hostels — so maybe there’s a sad pattern to it.

The room was very cramp and toilet is very smelly. Need to buy your own towel, toilet tissue, slippers, toothbrush, water bottle so in general although price is cheaper than other hostels, it may not be as cheap as it seems as a lot of amenities are not provided. Bed was also very thin and tough despite looking very thick in the picture. Another note is you have to lay your own bedsheet protector as such service is not provided here.

Originally, my spouse and I had planned to stay in a different accommodation for our trip to Shanghai, but due to her personal circumstances, I came to Shanghai alone. So I chose this accommodation because it's conveniently located, offers good value for money, and provides a comfortable place to sleep and shower for alone traveler. Upon using it, I found that it's centrally located with convenient access to public transportation, shopping facilities, convenience stores, fruit shops, bars, restaurants, and other amenities. The hot shower and comfortable bed were satisfactory. However, since it's a multi-bed room, there were some inconveniences for privacy, but considering the price, I expected that and chose it willingly.

The location is a bit of a walk from the nearest metro station, and the hostel is on the 4th floor of the building. (There are 2 elevators tho) The staff were friendly and willing to help, though there might be a slight language barrier. I appreciated that they gave me a disposable towel since none were provided by default. One thing to note is that you have to make your own bed upon arrival. Also, the bathroom inside the room had a bit of a gap (as in the photo here), so it didn’t feel fully closed off — which was a little awkward. Overall, it’s a decent place if you’re okay with the basics and just need a place to sleep.

Great Stay in the Heart of Shanghai I had a fantastic stay at this hostel! The location is perfect—right between The Bund and the Shanghai Museum, making it easy to explore the city. The subway is also close by, which was convenient for getting around. The staff were helpful and spoke English, which made my stay even smoother. The bed was comfortable with a privacy curtain that hides the light very well :) —it added an extra touch of comfort. Nothing fancy but overall, a great choice for anyone visiting Shanghai!

I found a cockroach in the bathroom about 10 minutes after arriving. The bathroom and and the floor were dirty. The only clean thing were the sheets for the bed. No one speaks even a little English. The location is great though.

Not a social hostel, many people living long term in the already small rooms. Other than that overall clean and good location.

Good hostel. Clean bed with el. plugs. Helpful staff. No soap, shampoo or toilet paper in the bathroom.

Good location but the bathroom needs cleaning more frequently. Also the dorm beds are very uncomfortable.

Got bitten by bedbugs, never happened to me so far in any of the hostels I ve been to. No toilet paper, no soap available, for the price I expect at least those kind of basics. Need sleepers? Have to pay. Want to leave your luggage? Have to pay. First time I see this. Very smelly room, the guests should be mandated to leave their shoes outside as the space is very small, the smell is unbearable. The only good point is the location of the place. The guy at the reception couldnt speak English, but was helpful, no complains about that.

The location is perfect. Close to the main street and the metro. The room is good but the mattress was practically absent and hard. the cleaning left much to be desired. the bathroom in 5 days never cleaned by anyone and was in pitiful conditions.

Good location for solo travel the service is smiles

I booked a bed in a 8-bed dormitory, with AC. The dormitory is a bit small, so you can feel packed, especially with everyones' luggage. The bed is a bunk bed, large enough, with a fair enough good mattress. For this dorm, you have access to an ensuite bathroom (shower + toilet) and a sink outside the bathroom. All could definitely be cleaner. The WiFi could be better. The staff is very nice and friendly. The location is very convenient, close to Nanjing Road. I would definitely recommend this place for a short or a long stay.
