GEM Hotel (Shanghai Bund Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street shop)

Stay here for the location, right on the Nanjing East Pedestrian Road. The building is sharing with other tenants, Reception is at level 7 to check in/out. There is a 24/7 security at level 1 building entrance, very safe. The room is clean and acceptable, although it is not the best or the cleanest, but helper did her job to refresh the room daily. Our family room provides detergent daily to wash our clothes.

Perfect location. Spacy room. Helpful front desk. Value for money. Many shops and restaurants around this hotel. Really Shanghai heritage concept hotel

The photos on trip.com is not accurate and deceiving. The entrance to the hotel is in a back alley behind Zara. The rooms looks to be not cleaned from 10 years ago with residual of previous hotel guests laying around

Location is great, the room is quite small but each room has its own theme so its a surprise!! You can also borrow umbrellas from front desk if needed.

Prime location with restaurants, shopping and sight-seeing experiences all at ease. No direct drop-off area, have to cross the road and walked abit into the building. Room is clean but dated, Sofa and chair have stains. Overall, a pleasant stay if not particular in details. Thanks.

The location is great, it's just a stone away from Shen Da Cheng 沈大成 the Must-Eat local food shop. It's also the same building with Zara clothing, which is somewhere in the middle of Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street 南京路步行街. And both GEM and GME actually referring to the same hotel 格美酒店. Their supervisor is helpful and replied fast through WeChat. The room is spacious but the cleanliness is to be improved. Dust and mold can be seen. The cleaner change the bathroom floor mat everyday and also provide us clean towels without taking away our dirty ones unless we leave it in the laundry basket, this is a plus to me that I can decide when to reuse or change a clean one. The toiletries are well provided, including kids toothbrush and kid slippers. Our family room comes with a 3.5kg washer and detergent is well provided too, this impressed me as I dont need to buy my own detergent. Air-conditioner and water heater are doing well during our stay. Overall recommended.

This hotel is my least favorite after travelling around china for 10 months. Although the location is pretty nice, but other points I would give it a minus. As we had two stays at this hotel (we went to another city for one night), I'm going to review it in two posts with the same content. Room interior: 3/10 - I'm so glad that I stayed at this hotel with my closest friend, and not family. It would be so awkward if I were to take a bath and my parents can see me through the glass. Yes it's not that clear, but you will definitely see each other's body. We had to turn back when we took a shower, and it's super uncomfortable. You also have to hang your clothes and towel outside the shower room door as well - The control button panel is very confusing. I don't mind most of it but the 'open the door' button. I find it's very dangerous when I just want to turn off all lights but open the door instead - Soundproofing was not that good. As we stayed at lobby floor, we always heard - The room interior on my second stay was very poor. It's smaller than the first and the window was super small like there's none. Amenities 3/10 - There is nothing such 'smart toilet'. It's very normal, so I'm pretty disappointed cuz it's one criteria I chose this hotel (my friend came from japan, and I especially chose this for her) - No bathrobe as listed (again, for my friend, she usually uses bathrobe as pajamas in japan and didn't take pajamas with her on this trip. We had a busy time finding new pajamas) - No soft drinks as listed - No guest laundry as listed Cleanliness: standard 10/10 (just look vintage, but no dusts) Luggage storage SAFETY: 3/10 I don't mind when we had to take our luggage to the storeroom by ourselves, but no one cared when we took them back. They didn't pay attention on which bags I took at all. We can just give them our luggage storage tag and go to take ours directly, without checking Front desk: 7/10 - the first stay was normal. They can speak some english. Their services was normal - On my second stay, the front desk guy who I didn't see during first stay was super super friendly and full of service mind. He was very nice and smiley while helping me register and helped me talking to the food delivery rider. The other was not bad. Location 9/10 - right on East Nanjing road - ~5 min walk to both east nanjing road and ppl square metros - It's a bit tiring to go back from the bund, but not that bad for people's in 20s
