Shangri-La Resort

Wonderful resort in Shangrila. Location is slightly away from the main spots but cabs are easily available. We got an upgraded room with a wonderful view. Since we are vegetarian, the hotel made special noodles for us for breakfast and gave us complimentary mushroom cookies. All in all a superb stay. Highly recommended.

The hotel is located 1 km from the ancient town and is a 10-15 minute drive to the train station. The room was comfortable, and the water pressure and heater worked perfectly. The Wi-Fi was very stable as well. (For foreigners, do bear in mind, if you connect to hotel wifi, you would need to connect to VPN in order to use WhatsApp, IG or Youtube) This is a 9-year-old property, so there are some flaws that can be improved, but that is understandable. My only feedback is about the F&B restaurant; they only have one all-day dining option. Breakfast was alright, with more of a local selection. I stayed for two nights. On the first day, there was staff available to help me and serve my cafe latte order. However, on the second day, I did not see any staff on standby, so I had to make my own cafe latte (I had to froth the milk), which I found awkward. I wish the staff were more well trained, but I understand it is low season and the hotel probably hired part-timers for service. The best highlight of my stay was meeting a lady named Rose He, who is part of the guest services team (i think). She made recommendations on where to go and even found us a local driver to take us around. She was extremely kind and polite. We exchanged WeChat information, and she texted me when the weather turned cold or rainy. She also helped us to arrange complimentary transportation to the train station. It felt personalized. Shangri-La, if you are reading this, I believe she deserves a token of appreciation. She is the true star and a great example of “hospitality.” Overall, we were happy with our stay. Thank you.

Cozy Hotel in the center of the city.

The receptionist was very rude to us and not a single member of the staff spoke English. They couldn’t find our booking and demanded (in Chinese) that we’d solve the matter by ourselves. I had to use my mobile data to call trip.com customer service multiple times to find out what was wrong. The receptionist at Shangrila was very unhelpful. I was on the phone and struggling with altitude sickness so i didn’t even notice that the receptionist forgot to give me back my passport and I got it back only the next day. I complained to the hotel chain’s customer service about the matter and their suggestion was to just book directly through them next time, so it seems like subpar customer service is their normal standard. I would not recommend staying here because you can get significantly better customer service and value for your money just about anywhere else.

Thanks to her thoughtful recommendations and meticulous planning, I was able to explore the magnificent Songzanlin Monastery, as well as other scenic spots that showcased the unique beauty of the region. The hotel’s facilities were outstanding, with spacious, elegantly designed rooms that provided stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The dining options were equally impressive, offering a mix of local ******* flavors and international cuisine. The staff throughout the resort were warm, welcoming, and always eager to help, adding to the overall exceptional experience. Staying at Shangri-La Resort was a highlight of my journey, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the region. With its perfect combination of luxury, comfort, and deep cultural immersion, this resort is truly a gem in the alluring town of Shangri-La. The room was clean and spacious, breakfast was excellent and delicious, quality assured as you would expect from a reputable international brand. Staying in Shangri-La while in Shangri-La is highly recommended!
