Wrangell Mountains Wilderness Lodge

What an incredible place! You will not regret your stay here. Everything from the details of the living quarters to the wonderful hosts to their amazing dogs to the outstanding food made this trip a dream. We stayed in a yurt (highly recommend) and did a stunning hike to Rambler Mine which had the ruins of a mining encampment covered in wildflowers at the top of a steep, short incline. We also got to explore the lake a bit, eat homemade bacon salmon chowder, and cozy up next to the fireplace in the yurt. If you're looking for a place to escape the world, meet genuinely kind and friendly people, and get an authentic Alaskan atmosphere, look no further.

Was in Alaska for 3 weeks and this was by far the nicest prettiest best place we stayed. Mike and Victoria have created a five star lodge in Wrangell St Elias. The cabin included kitchenette and large living space. The beautiful detail was evident. The lodge is a wonderfully restored building true to Alaska. And that is where breakfast and dinner are served. Meals are gourmet, really. Innovative, made with thought and care. As good or better than any city high end restaurant but with ingredients local to Alaska. Please go try it for yourself, it is amazing.

Our second visit at this most extraordinary place with the best people. Mike, Victoria and their family are so welcoming, remarkably hospitable and the setting is literally other worldly. 28 miles into the Wrangell - St. Elias National Park, you are invited into the most beautiful Alaskan wilderness. We saw northern light from our cabin, cross country skied on the softest powder and across frozen lakes. We counted golden eagles as they migrated back to their nesting grounds. Be sure and opt into the meal plan. Breakfast and dinners in the lodge are thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented and flat out delicious. A generous and always yummy trail lunch is provided for you to take on your daily adventure. Our last trip was in early September when the fall colors were spectacular. This trip in the snow was equally marvelous! The accommodations are super comfortable - albeit rustic. Which, for us, added to the experience and enjoyment!

Very comfortable cabins, plenty of kitchen wares to cook on the stove. Heaters were more than adequate for the temperatures in March. Excellent trails for cross country skiing and the trails were packed enough to walk without snow shoes, but would likely be needed most of the winter.

If you are looking to spend time in Wrangell St Elias National Park we highly recommend staying at Wrangell Mountains Wilderness Lodge. The Nabesna road is incredibly beautiful and no matter the time of year you simply cannot beat this often overlooked area of the park. The lodge and cabins are very well kept and comfortable and right in the heart of some of the most beautiful scenery Alaska has to offer. Michael and Victoria are incredibly knowledgeable about this area and it’s vast history, you will definitely be glad that you stayed here to enjoy this beautiful place.

As always the Wrangell Wilderness lodge was the perfect place to rest, relax and recover! The owners Mike and Victoria have put in so much love and work over the years. Their hospitality is second to none, making the lodge feel like a second home. The new yurts have an awesome vibe and we will be down again soon. For any trip, any reason, any season I can’t imagine not loving it there!
