We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel, bed and breakfast. Our room was ok, reasonably comfortable, but I reported to the girl at the bar downstairs that the toilet appeared to be blocked as the water didn't go down properly, so she said she would pass the message on. The next day I had to ask for fresh towels as they hadn't been replaced, so the landlady brought some up herself. That was the only time anyone came into our room - housekeeping was non-existent. Nothing was done about the toilet, we were told that 5 different people had been to check on it and they were unable to do anything! Therefore I feel that they had no right to make the room available as the toilet was unsanitary. Breakfast was mediocre, fresh fruit was not replaced so there was very little in the way of strawberries, blueberries etc , only a couple of each which were left over, and the last day we were there as the landlady had to go out she left a pot of tea on the table which must have been standing for a good 15 minutes so was consequently cold by the time we got to it! So I will not be recommending this hotel, very disappointing for the £95 a night we paid.

We just spent a very agreeable night at the Crown Hotel, where there's new management and a programme of renovation has been going on. Our large, bright, clean, extremely comfortable first-floor room with an efficient small ensuite was just what we needed. Breakfast in the morning was generous, the host was friendly and attentive, and the remarkable early-medieval minster cathedral, which is this classic little town's central attraction, was five minutes' walk away.

Stayed here for the weekend was very welcoming and room was spotless and comfortable. Had everything you could want breakfast was ok (personally I’d rather have a cooked breakfast),staff are fabulous and nothing was too much trouble will definitely stay here again

I have been a customer at The Crown twice since it opened again & love the friendly staff & comforting atmosphere. I would never have gone in before as it always felt somewhat threatening. The food is delicious & I would highly recommend their special food nights. I will be back for lunch soon & for summer drinks.

Was staying elsewhere but came here for an evening meal and was not disappointed. Despite feeling an intruder on arrival and approaching the bar, I was soon welcomed by catering staff and seated comfortably. The meal was truly delicious and well-presented. Even some French people on an adjacent table were impressed! The one thing I would suggest is making it clearer when cheese is incuded in soup, as this may not be to everyone's taste, and can be tricky to manoeuvre. Otherwise, full marks!!

The room was beautifully decorated with everything we needed and as someone who doesn't drink tea or coffee, I really appreciated the bottles of water. The beds were extremely comfortable and we both had a good night's sleep. The owner and staff were amazing- extremely friendly and very welcoming- couldn't wish for better hosts. The pub was a 'proper' pub and breakfast the following morning was lovely. Again as someone who doesn't eat much in a morning, the cheese and hams were perfect.No onside parking but managed to park in the side street snd there is a car park a few hundred yards awa. Booked to stay again already and as my son is at the university I'm sure we will return more than once . Kay

We weren’t staying at the hotel but found it when looking for somewhere to eat lunch. Although the bar had the appearance of a traditional pub, there was a good, well chosen menu which catered as well for vegetarians as it did meat eaters. Had a wonderful Buddha Bowl with hot drinks and excellent value. Will definitely eat here again when we next visit Southwell.

What a lovely hotel. As it is above a pub, we were expecting it to be noisy and a bit scruffy. Instead, the room was stylish and clean and sumptuous and the food was delicious. We had a very good night's sleep and the owner, Tamara, bent over backwards to make our stay as comfortable as possible. She reall went above and beyond expectations. In fact, all the staff were super helpful and very friendly. The hotel is in a cental location in a very lovely village and there is a comfortable snug where my 92 year old Mum was able to relax in comfort. A well deserved 5*
