This was a little oasis in the middle of a busy city . The staff were helpful and friendly. The room were clean and decorated beautifully, beds were comfortable and the pool was a welcome break after touring around the city. It’s situated it a very convenient location.. little hard to find when you arrive but once you’ve found it, everything is fine. Not suitable if you have walking issues as you can only access the hotel by foot and there isn’t any lift in the hotel. No on site breakfast either.

If you're looking for a beautiful stone Heritage Hotel, right in the centre of Split, with staff who make you feel like family, look no further than this hotel. I arrived late on my first night due to train delays. I made contact with the hotel staff who assured me it was no problem. Upon checking in at 1am, I was extremely impressed by the room. It was as clean as anywhere I have ever stayed, with modern fittings and furniture set on the backdrop of an amazing old stone building. The room itself felt like where modern luxury and ancient architecture meet. My room connected directly to the pool, and I was delighted to find a range of reasonably priced drinks and snacks available within the room. The following day I met Jago, who I had only spoken to on the phone previously. He was incredibly warm and welcoming and informed me that following their end of season staff party, they had left the remaining drinks for guests for free. Jago proceeded to explain a few of the drinks available, some unique Croatian liqueurs which were all the more enjoyable once their cultural significance was explained. At all times I was a short walk from the waterfront. The location is ideal. The hotel is about as clean and tidy as anywhere I have ever stayed. The pool is heated and is a beautiful way to start or finish your day. Later I met Marina, the manager. She was once again incredibly welcoming, responding to my questions about the area and even inviting me to stay for coffee while we discussed possible activities for me. The hotel also provides a laundry service. I left my laundry with them in the morning and when I returned, it was cleaned, folded and returned to my room. Staff went above and beyond here, from Jago to Marina and the housekeeping staff. I could not rate them highly enough. Coupled with the beautiful building and the Central location together with the pool, this place is truly not to be missed. Thank you Hotel Agava, I will most certainly return!

Excellent hotel right in the old town. Perfect for exploring the town. Breakfast is amazing served at a waterfront restaurant. Staff are excellent. Pool is wonderful after a hot walk around the town. Cannot fault this hotel and will recommend it.

Hidden gem. Comfortable rooms, very friendly staff, beautiful old buildings, and a serene swimming pool. It’s about 5 minutes’ walk to the centre of Split (Diocletian’s palace), and a couple of minutes from the waterfront. Some of the rooms have views that peek through the rooftops to see the water and the ships. The pool was perfect for cooling off in the heatwave, and we ended up going in several times a day, from first thing in the morning to an evening dip under the stars. The pool had a couple of inflatables by it when we were there - it wasn’t clear if they are always there, or had been brought by one of the families staying, but everyone was using them (adults and kids) and it made the pool more fun for the kids. There was a mix of couples, families and groups of BFF’s around the pool, and there was enough space in the pool for everyone to be able to do their thing. It was a lovely touch that the pool area had several sunscreen bottles for anyone to use. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant (although you can get drinks for around the pool). Breakfast is served at a brasserie on the Riva (waterfront), about 5 minutes’ walk away. The deal is that you can have one dish + apple or orange juice or coffee or tea. The restaurant wasn’t entirely clear about the deal at the start, so we got tempted into ordering more on the first day. The second day we got wiser and ordered the “two tier” breakfast which is essentially two dishes but counts as one on the menu (scrambled eggs and muffin, plus french toast brioche with maple syrup and fruit). The staff were always really helpful, and after we left Marina went out of her way to keep me informed after the staff searched for a lost charging cable that I thought I had left in the room. Would love to go back here sometime!

What a gem! Lovely boutique hotel just steps away from the waterfront and Old Town. Comfortable rooms with 200 year old stone walls. There is even a rooftop swimming pool if you are so inclined and a shared terrace to relax on. Some rooms include breakfast. Ours did not, but for €11 we were able to purchase breakfast vouchers that bought us the most unbelievable breakfast at Brasserie on Seven located on the Vera Promenade overlooking the bay. This got us a two tiered breakfast scrambled eggs on a delicious homemade English muffin with Pannacotta and a banana Foster brioche French toast. Yeah, it was as good as it sounds. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Jago was so helpful and gave us excellent restaurant suggestions (Kanoba Fetivi for amazing fresh fish and Sette Sotelle for fantastic pizza). We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We had a fantastic stay here! - Jago at the front desk was friendly and helpful and informative; he even walked with us to our car to help us find the parking garage, then carried my suitcase up to the room! He was full of useful information about the area. - Breakfast was not on site, we had vouchers for a cafe a short walk away. The vouchers allow you to order any of the breakfast items, plus a drink. Any extras are paid for, which is fair enough. - The pool was secluded and a great way to cool off. - The room was clean and came with a minibar and tea and coffee-making facilities. - Reception is not 24hrs, but that was explained to us at check in

Context of me as a travel reviewer - I’m in my 40’s and quite well traveled. Hotel Agava is located right in the old town area of Split. Practicalities; this means everything is within walking distance from the bay/marina area, so no need for taxis to and from town. It also means if your tired and want to lie down it’s an easy thing to do. There is a pharmacy and local small supermarket “Tommy”, stocked with everything you may need only a couple of minutes walk away. The main area for food and drinks overlooking the water is also just a few minutes walk. The hotel is family owned. It is one of the few, if only hotels with a pool, which is heated in old town! The hotel itself is magnificent, old and beautifully decorated. Practical notes; Reception is not 24 hours but are staffed by warm, friendly kind people. There is no restaurant on site, so you’re given vouchers valid for two breakfast eateries. One serves until roughly 10:30 am and is located by the marina overlooking the sea…fabulous selection of really good quality food. You have to pay for extras, such as if you’re in the holiday mood for a mimosa! Which is totally fair. The second option is a little further away, perhaps a ten minute slow walk on a side street but it serves breakfast until 12pm! The food here was really good also. There is a bar with a view over the sea one minute walk from the hotel. We sat there many times - it doesn’t serve food but the drinks are cheap and the view is priceless. The server works so hard . It seems to be frequented by locals who buy coffee, stay for one or two hours and leave no tips. The hotel have rituals bathroom products (if that’s important to you) The air conditioning is very effective. They have flatscreen TV’s with English speaking channels, one of which was CNN news the others had shows like Chicago med, Chicago fire, Sherlock Holmes etc. Our room did not have a view but was directly beside the pool! Housekeeping was fantastic. You can buy alcohol and non alcoholic beverages from reception if you wish to have a drink by the pool. There are 10 sun loungers by the pool, they supply towels. It gets sunlight most of the day. One word of warning is not of the hotel but of the streets of Split, they are made of shiny stone and not particularly safe for flip flops! We hope to return very soon! Taxi from airport was about 45 minutes €50 & reception will arrange for you if you request it.

If the hotel didn't have a pool I probably wouldn't have stayed here. Staff were rude, dumped our bag outside room, were quite blunt and not at all welcoming. Room was dated and dark. Close to get into centre of split and lovely pool, and I found it hard to find a hotel with a pool.

Delightful small heritage hotel (exposed stonework etc.) close to the marina, restaurants, bars and a 5 minute walk to the old town. Friendly and very helpful young staff. Nice swimming pool to cool off on with enough sun beds also a small separate patio area.

Beautiful, quaint hotel. The staff is absolutely magnificent and caters to your every need. The rooms are beautiful and each one a bit different. The pool is the cherry on top. I can’t say enough about Jago and the owner Marina. The breakfast is a short walk away on the water and is delicious. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

We stayed a week and found the hotel to have the loveliest staff. Always helpful. The room was impeccably clean, had a kettle, fridge and drinks etc. it is perfectly located near the centre but tucked away so it was very quiet. The pool was perfect for cooling down and sunbathing. Breakfast is a 5 min walk to a lovely restaurant along the Riva which serves delicious and beautifully presented breakfast. This is not your usual built for purpose hotel, it is a converted house full of charm and quirky layout. Only tip for hotel is that two more sun beds for busy times would make a difference.

What a gem of a place. We loved our stay and would go back tomorrow if we could. Staff friendly, pool was great. A few stairs to climb to our room but the view was lovely, and the staff kindly carried our bags for us. Breakfast was included and was off site at a local restaurant. All up a great place, quaint and very authentic
