This was exceptionally poor. I rarely write reviews. Friendly land lady and staff. Wasn’t overwhelmed by the menu, but thought I’d stay and try as local. Astonished that I was served canned tomato soup (£5.95) and my fish cakes were frozen on a bed of iceberg lettuce with no dressing (£10.95). Admittedly the salad had beetroot and plenty of carrot. Just not been in a pub restaurant since the 1980’s that served frozen food (and at insulting mark ups). Soup & fish cakes are the easiest things to make. I’m only even reviewing as the landlady did not like me commenting. Her response was “well we have to charge something”. We can’t just serve it free. When I mentioned the frozen fish cakes, she said “those are hard to make those fish cakes”, as if there were some delicacy. Certainly not…This was a really poor meal. It’s a shame as I want this pub to survive and am local, but serving frozen food is really taking the p*ss. When there are so many other excellent pubs serving restaurant quality food or excellent pub grub, how have they thought they could fill their freezer and heat it up for customers? I’m prepared to risk reviewing as a local given the audacity of this pub & the landladies chat back.
