Sporting Lodge Inn Middlesbrough

Was a lovely hotel and sports complex before they moved the illegal immigrants in. Such a shame, we certainly won't be returning.

My daughter wanted a night away just the 2 of us with spa facilities and google led us here! The hotel itself is very dated however the beds were the comfiest i have ever slept in! We went to use the 'spa facilities' pool was nice, only half was available due to swimming lessons. The hottub, sauna and steam room were too busy to use-but that cant be helped as its a large hotel. I was really disappointed at the state of the changing rooms as they were dirty-hair all over and a really awful smell. The staff were fabulous! The receptionist was welcoming and helpful, the receptionist for the fitness centre was really nice too. But the hospitality staff were really good! We went and had cocktails and a meal in the adjoining bar and restaurant and each member of staff couldn't do enough for us! Breakfast was nice, with huge variety and again the staff were exeptional...really warm, welcoming and funny! The housekeeping team all said hi too! So, overall the staff alone would be 5* but the tired/worn facilities were a bit naff!

The hotel is adequate for a stopover. The bed was comfy with good quality bedding. The decor was dated and tired. Only shower gel in bathroom. The reception staff were welcoming and friendly. The pool was cool and refreshing on a warm day but small and crowded with people standing around. The spa pool was deliciously warm but over chlorinated. Steam room and sauna were great. Changing rooms were definitely below par and not very clean in areas. No spinners for swimming costumes or bags for costumes as other hotels provide. Towels provided for swimming were clean but thin. The breakfast was of good quality and there was plenty of choice 10/10. Breakfast staff were very friendly and welcoming. Biggest let down was the thumping music that stopped us sleeping as it went on until 1am and we did request a quiet room. Our bed was also pushed up against the wall which made access difficult.

This hotel is excellent value for money. They’ve got all the basics covered here, comfortable bed, good quality linen and pillows and spotlessly clean. Yes the furniture is a bit tired and a small fridge would have definitely upped it a star, but other than that you can’t really fault what they do here. All the staff were very nice and friendly too. The pub on site only serves food after 4pm so there’s no option for lunch or a drink in the daytime, and there’s not much choice for a healthy option at dinner either, but the breakfast was very good, lots of choice. I found the hotel to be very quiet even though it was full to capacity, didn’t use the pool or gym so can’t comment on that but I’d definitely stay again.

After reading some of the negative reviews I was slightly worried about staying here. However, I can honestly say I had a great comfortable night. The hotel is advertised as ‘buget’ so if you’re wanting 5 star luxury then find another hotel. However, If you’re looking for a good nights’ sleep in a quiet, spacious comfortable room at a great price then this is the place for you. The rooms are slightly dated but very clean with crisp white linen. Food was great and reasonably priced. I also received complimentary access to the on site gym/pool but unfortunately didn’t have the time to visit. I honestly couldn’t find anything to complain about. I would definitely stay here again.
