Our stay at 小山居 (Xiao Shan Ju) was hands-down the highlight of our Yangshuo trip. We spent five days in Yangshuo and tried two different accommodations… but let’s just say our hearts checked in and never checked out of 小山居. Yes, the location is a little more on the remote side, but honestly that’s part of its magic. It’s easily reachable by Didi or scooter, yet tucked away enough to feel like you’ve escaped into a quiet countryside village. They kept the charm of the old village house while giving it a modern, comfy upgrade. Bonus: the blanket was SO comfortable we literally flipped it over to find the brand because we wanted to buy it for ourselves. And then there’s Aimee—the soul of the place. Warm, thoughtful, impossibly accommodating… and an amazing cook. She can whip up both Western-style brunches and Chinese breakfasts, all delicious, but a special shoutout goes to her 葱油面. It was so good we shamelessly asked for the recipe, which she kindly shared. Her food was so addictive that even after we moved to our next accommodation, we still went back for dinner. If you’d like Aimee to cook for you, just let her know in advance—she buys her ingredients fresh from the market, and the veggies come straight from her garden! If you’re heading to Yangshuo, we highly recommend staying here. Aimee also gives fantastic local recommendations—every single one was a hit, never a miss, never even a “so-so”. We’d go back in a heartbeat. 💛

Chuxin Homestay felt more like staying with thoughtful hosts than at a typical Yangshuo lodging. The room was quiet, spacious, and well kept, and the bed was comfortable enough to rest well after long days out. Getting around was easy with scooter rentals close by and simple food options nearby. What really made the stay smooth was the owner’s guidance — she helped map out our days realistically, steered us toward fairly priced experiences, and discouraged activities that weren’t worth the money. We arrived late on our first night and were still warmly welcomed, which immediately set the tone for the stay. Communication was always clear and timely, and the place felt safe and well managed. A small but memorable detail was Fa Cai, the calm and friendly house dog. If you prefer an honest stay without tourist traps, this homestay is a solid choice.

This is a wonderful family run guesthouse, where you can enjoy peace away from the hustle of Xingping Old Town. Differently from other types of accommodation we have seen in Dahe Bei village, this guesthouse is a hidden gem with charme and character. The food was excellent and abundant, freshly cooked by the owner herself. The owner picked us up from the Dahe Bei ferry dock, organised an electric moped rental in Dahe Bei (we didn't see many on that side of the river) and gave us plenty of tips and suggestions for where to go and what to do around there, including a sunrise hike to a nearby mountain that you can reach directly from the guesthouse - if you're into hiking (it's a 1h walk uphill through pomelo and orange orchards, followed by a series of staircases), it's a great spot, as we found only a few photographers when we got up there. The ginger cat and the house dog are cute and extremely friendly, adding to the overall wonderful atmosphere. Our room was spacious and clean, with plenty of hot water for showers after a day of hiking or driving around to see the surroundings. If we were to travel again in this area, we would definitely go back. Highly recommended!

Relativt billigt boende med fönster/balkong inför karstberget, och bara 100m från Li River.Några fina thailändska temade skönheter dekorerar rummen. Bed är bara en liten ”dubbel” och har en användbar kraftpunkt nära sängen till höger + ljuskontroller.Aircon fungerar bra (endast ett litet rum så att man kan förvänta sig).Allmänt, OK för 100 RMB per natt, men har några frågor. Bokat ”specialpromotion” rum.Trip.com indikerar en rumsstorlek på 12 m kvadratmeter, vilket är felaktigt.Jag mätte den på 9.5 kvadrat, inklusive badrummet.Om inklusive den lilla balkongen (2.5 sq m), är det totala rumsareat 12 m bästa fallet. Bara tillräckligt stor för enstaka besättningar, med liten mängd bagage.Två människor skulle behöva klättra över varandra för att flytta runt.Inte där nära tillräckligt med utrymme för två bagage skulle behövas hålls utanför på balkongen! Varmt vatten fungerar men är inte kalibrerat.Vare sig kokande varmt eller frysande kallt.Extremt svårt att hitta rätt temperatur för dusch med någon komfort.Jag sätter helt varmt och väntade.Vatten blev super varmt efter 40 sekunder. Justerad för att minska genom att ställa in mellan varmt/kylt, men vattentemperaturen förblev super varm.Sen trycktes till fullt kall.Vattentemperatur övergick till kall 29 sekunder senare.Sen sattes tillbaka till mittenläget men vatten förblev död kallt. Testade båda dessa vägar i minst 4 minuter vardera och förblev antingen värme eller frysning kall!! Hotellet ger tecken på önskan att ”snälla rent rum” och jag hänger den på ytterdörren för två dagar, men till ingen nytta så kan bara anta att ägarna inte tillhandahåller denna tjänst. Denna fastighet är bara betygsatt som ett 2-stjärnigt hotell, och med tanke på den låga prispunkten kan du verkligen inte klaga - under förutsättning att priset är lågt.Acceptabelt för 100-120 RMB per natt.Oacceptabelt för mycket mer än detta.

This guest house left me with mixed feelings. Let's start with the good things. The location is super convenient: right in the old town and yet in a relatively quiet area. It's close to the river so you can take a refreshing night stroll, and close to a delicious bakery/café you'll never forget. The atmosphere of the guest house is rustic and cozy, with a laundry room that, despite its very limited space, serves the purpose. There are also cats and a dog you can freely play with. The bed was comfortable for us (a bit on the harder side). The owners speak English so you can easily communicate with them. They are very kind and helpful. However, a few things about this stay got me extremely disappointed, particularly taking into consideration the positive reviews I had read (which honestly I don't understand where they came from). The room was far from clean. There was a very visible layer of dust. The cushion seats had huge stains and looked dirty overall. The shower room did not get cleaned very regularly, as you can see from the picture. In general everything in the property looked outdated and cheap (wobbly sink taps, doors with huge gaps, that give way to all sorts of bugs and giant spiders..). The fact that the toilet is next to the shower room leaves no room for privacy and makes the toilet floor wet most of the time (this could be solved with a proper shower door instead of a curtain). In conclusion, I was more than happy to leave the property because it did not meet my standards for comfort and hygiene. However, if you don't particularly care about a certain degree of dirt and dust here and there, and are cool with bugs, then you should definitely go for it as you might really like the retro atmosphere of the place.

THE BEST OF A HOTEL + THE BEST OF A HOMESTAY Choosing LINJING HOMESTAY was a great decision! I recommend it 100%. THE BEST OF A HOTEL: Spacious, beautiful, bright room with all the amenities and impeccable cleanliness. The views were fabulous, the bed was wonderful (large, with a comfortable, soft mattress and very soft sheets), it also had chairs and a table to work at, and the Wi-Fi worked very well. I liked that there were natural plants, too. The bathroom was fantastic. The bidet water gun was a pleasant surprise. You can shower with very hot water and good pressure. Don't worry if the floor gets wet: the water-repellent tiles dry very quickly. There are disposable towels if you want to bathe in the river, but there are also soft cotton towels and non-slip slippers to use in the hotel. THE BEST OF A HOMESTAY: The hosts are a warm local family. I was touched by their kindness and hospitality. They helped me a lot and always gave me fruit and other nice things to eat. They were always willing to share a cup of tea. They also got me a motorbike at a very good price. And they let me use their washing machine for free. They even drove me to the station and dropped me directly on my bus. THE SURROUNDINGS: The location is excellent. It is a quiet neighbourhood where local families live. You meet very friendly people all the time. You just have to cross the bridge in front of the hotel to get to the old quarter. Behind the hotel there is a path leading up to a viewpoint that few people know about. The path is very well signposted and is perfect for watching the sunset.

Inne på West Street är det väldigt bekvämt att shoppa och äta på kvällen. Miljön är bra att titta ner på West Street. Men någon från mästerkocken sjöng väldigt högt . Nyckeln är inte bra, det är lite bullrigt jag vill stanna på balkongen igen, så jag stänger balkongdörren och håller nere volymen, men jag kommer inte att sjunga efter klockan 12.

GREAT experience. Such a nice and helpful staff, we had a warm welcome and they were very keen on helping us during our journey in Yangshuo. The location is right in West Street and close by the river, with amazing views. The room was very confortable and clean, had AC. I definitely recommend! --- Super expérience. It's definitely worth to stay there. The entrance through the dressing shop is nice and unique. Also the bar at the upper floor is nice, not busy and you can enjoy time there. I got a really nice room directly with view on the streets.
