This apartment is right downtown and convenient to everything Taos has to offer including restaurants, shops, galleries and museums. For five years this was my popular shop Red Cat Melissiana. One day I realized my passion was Vacation Rentals (I have 11) and not retail so it was time to re invent myself once again... Red Cat Melissiana Apartment is located in an 1880's building with all the charm of old Taos and so much history. Originally this was a street with small homes and shops across the street from the Plaza and the original Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. This street was once the Red Light District of Taos with a network of underground tunnels leading to interesting destinations and all kinds of varied stories. There are many spirit activity reports for juicy stories to share. Just ask me...This apartment is now a newly re furbished space decorated with my antiques, original art and sense of whimsy throughout. It's everything you could want on your vacation for 1-4 guests and so very 'Taos'. Built in the 1880's, the building has many wooden vigas (ceiling beams), creaky old wood floors, 14" walls and many windows. The living room has a queen sofa sleeper with a gel foam mattress and sleeps an additional two guests with bedding stored in antique trunk/coffee table. ($25 per person per night) There is a big flat screen TV if TV is something you want on your vacation. It's located in a one of a kind cupboard in the living room behind closed doors. I also have a record player and albums for that retro feel. The bedroom features a queen bed with high end bedding and a decorative quilt. There is a trastero/armoire for your clothing and just leave your robes at home since there are two just waiting for your cozy moments here. The kitchen features an eclectic tiled counter, vintage cooktop, sink and refrigerator combo. It is well equipped and offers all amenities for any cooking at home. Table for two-four and extra chairs if you need them. The bathroom features a fully tiled corner shower and a sink set in an antique Mexican cabinet. There are lots of towels and any supplies you might need.Winter heat is provided by two stoves. One gas and one electric. Operate gas log stove only by the wall thermostat. NEVER turn off main gas line. For summer there are ceiling fans and a swamp cooler, but the 14" thick walls keep this space comfortable year round. If you visit in spring, summer or fall you can enjoy 'Melissa's Secret Garden' a private little private oasis under a box elder tree surrounded by container plants, a wall fountain, outdoor lighting and lots of assemblage garden art. I am also offer a BBQ grill and string lights so my guests can enjoy this outdoor space. My style of decor is Melissiana Eclectic. What is this? it's a mix and match style with antiques, yard sale and consignment treasures, original art and more--always fun things for my guests to discover, appreciate and enjoy. This downtown historic building actually has three private apartments and is perfect for single travelers and couples or combine the three and bring a bigger group of friends and families. The three apartments will sleep up to ten guests in total. All kinds of possibilities (Check out my other two apartments on this street Vrbo 422849 (the Red Cat House) and Vrbo 513557 (Casa Flora)As with all of my properties this apartment is dog friendly. I provide dog sheets for bed and sofa as well as a decorated mutt mitt box in the side courtyard. $10 per night per dog. Just leave on kitchen table.Great prices, nicely furnished with a quirky sense of style, well equipped, comfortable beds, old adobe with thick walls for peaceful nights and privacy, right downtown and parking across the street. Red Cat House is a one of a kind vacation rental apartment in Taos. When inquiring about vacation accommodations in town, an often asked question is 'Are you walking distance from the Plaza?' Red Cat House is unique in that it across the street from the Historic Taos Plaza. In fact there are Plaza, town and mountain views from every window. This apartment offers convenience combined with a peaceful and quiet, spacious yet cozy, home away from home for one or two guests.Red Cat House is located on Dona Luz Lane, 'The Garden Street of Taos' (landscaped by me, a professional landscaper) This street boasts a wonderful variety of shops and restaurants. It was once the 'Red Light District' in town and La Dona Luz was a madame. Entry is down a little brick pathway surrounded by blooming plants with original outdoor art on all walls and an outdoor seating area. Upstairs is Red Cat House-a wonderful intimate world of its own. You will discover antiques, color and light, original art and whimsical touches in your own private little world. The sunny eat in kitchen is well equipped for morning coffee, a gourmet breakfast or a romantic dinner for two.The living room is a perfect spot for lounging with a comfortable couch, lamps, a flat screen TV, DVD's, books and a selection of music for just that right mood. Enjoy dinner at an 18th century walnut tilt top table for two looking out over the Plaza with a view of Taos Mountain in the distance. If you need to do a little work (not too much I hope), there is high speed internet available and a desk where you can write about your wonderful Taos adventures or even compose a spontaneous love poem if so inclined. Many of my guests enjoy my record player and collection of albums. The sunlight bathroom has a large shower, lots of towels, robes for two and some fun touches to discover. The bedroom is so very special with an antique queen size, pillow top, four post teak canopy bed, down comforter, fine linens and lots of pillows. I even have an electric mattress pad for chilly Taos nights. So nice to climb into a warm bed.Hang your clothes in a tall mirrored English oak armoire. The bedroom is cozy with a gas log stove. The multi paned windows are screened to allow you to enjoy our wonderful mountain air that just invites snuggling-so cozy and romantic.Summer visitors will enjoy window air conditioners in bedroom, kitchen and living room. There are also ceiling fans in living room and bedroom. If you can tear yourselves away from the comforts of Red Cat House, all of Taos is just outside your door. You are within easy walking distance of all Historic District shops, restaurants, galleries and museums. You may browse my "Melissa's Picks" found in the apartment or just ask me for suggestions about 'All Things Taos'. Ask me where to go for live music and special events during your stay so you can meet folks who enjoy life and all the richness Taos has to offer. I enjoy sharing the charms and stories of our town with visitors. Although this apartment is right downtown evenings are quiet; an advantage of these old Taos buildings with thick adobe walls.Red Cat House has so much to offer. This is a little slice of Paradise in Taos-the perfect vacation spot you will always remember.p.s. No significant other at the moment? This property is truly one of a kind in Taos-perhaps anywhere. The main house is a wonderful old adobe on two pastoral acres down a country road surrounded by trees, lawns and gardens just across the Road from the Rio Pueblo. It has a remote and private feel and yet is less than a five minute drive to the Plaza and 30 minutes from world class skiing. You are entertained by stars and coyotes at night, roosters, the neighbors' donkey and church bells in the morning and birds all day long. The house is the true essence of southwest decor. The walls have a soft, buttermilk/beeswax sheen. Dark beamed ceilings and wood floors throughout are complimented by antique furnishings, native rugs, original art and many amazing and creative touches. It is a small home, perfect for a couple although it does have a second bedroom with its own private bath for two couples traveling together. Both bedrooms have queen size beds. Enter from the covered portal into a kitchen fully equipped for all your cooking needs. If I don't have it, you probably don't need it! You will enjoy cooking on my 1949 O'Keefe & Merritt gas stove The living room is warm and inviting. A gas log stove in the corner provides central heat, but the wood burning kiva fireplace sets the tone. Ample firewood is located in a wood box just outside the kitchen door. There is an extensive DVD video library and numerous CDs. The Roku tv offers local channels and Netflix. All you need for a quiet evening at home. In fact most guests spend more time here relaxing than they do out adventuring. The master bedroom has an antique brass and iron queen size bed with down comforters and lots of pillows and good bedside reading lights. The large walk in closet opens to a hot tub under an 60' elm tree. There two full bathrooms in the home One has a deep tub/shower. The other is a walk in shower. John is a friend and still lives nearby. There are fun and fanciful touches to delight throughout the property from the turquoise Willy's planter truck in the front pasture to the the whimsical gardens and the outdoor art everywhere.
