"The hotel reception blamed Trip.com, saying they should not and cannot charge the city tax, and then asked me to pay again.
Overall, I had a good experience at the hotel, but the reception staff need better training. When I checked out, the receptionist asked me to pay the city tax. I told her that my booking clearly included the city tax, but she kept insisting that what I had prepaid did not cover it.
At that moment, I couldn’t find the booking receipt in my email, so I couldn’t show her proof right away. Because she kept saying I was wrong, my teenage son started to believe her and argued with me, saying, “If she asks for it, just pay, it’s only €14.” This was upsetting, not because of the money, but because it set the wrong example for my son.
In the end, I paid the €14 again and then took about 10 minutes to search through my email. When I finally found the booking receipt, I went back to show it to her — proving that I was right and the city tax had already been included. At that point, she asked someone else for help (possibly a manager), and instead of apologizing, they blamed Trip.com, saying I should ask the agent for a refund.
I later contacted Trip.com, and they processed the refund without any issues. I’ve used Trip.com many times before, and I’ve never had a problem like this. The real issue here is not the money but the lack of professionalism at the hotel reception."
