I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The location is absolutely perfect — right in the heart of Kyoto city. It’s just a short walk to both the train and bus stations, which made getting around super convenient. Plus, it’s very close to major shopping malls Takashimaya where you can buy Marukyu koyamaen matcha. The hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. They also have a washing machine and dryer available, which is really convenient for longer stays. However, there’s only one of each, so if it gets busy, you might need to wait your turn. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto! They also has nearby Izakaya that the owner was so kind and foreigner friendly welcome.

Great place to relax and unwind after spending the day in Tokyo!  Staff were extra kind and extremely helpful.  The facilities and decor are top-notch.  The aesthetic of the room was incredibly well thought out - the dimmed lighting makes the room even more relaxing - the hot tub/onsen on the first floor is extremely well maintained and great after walking all day.  There's a nice cafe connected to the lobby and a Family Mart five steps from the hotel entrance. Would highly recommend if you need to be near Kyoto station.

The location of the hotel is excellent,just a short walk from Kyoto Station, which made getting around the city incredibly convenient. Whether heading out for sightseeing or returning after a long day, transportation was always easy and accessible. The check-in and check-out processes were smooth and hassle-free, with clear instructions and efficient service. Overall, it was a very comfortable and convenient stay, especially for travelers who value accessibility and ease.

I really enjoyed staying at this ryokan in Gion, Kyoto. I only stayed for one night but I wish I had stayed for longer! Upon arrival, you must remove your shoes before entering and checking in. The check in process was quick and simple. Once checked in at the front desk, I was taken to my room and a member of staff sat with me at the table and poured tea etc. Possibly due to language barriers though, it was entirely clear what was going on the whole time so I was mostly just confused. It would have been nice to have some form of explanation beforehand as to the check in process and what was expected when staying at the property so that I appreciated the experience as it happened. I did receive a leaflet on all such things post-check in (which was an amazing touch!) so I guess I learnt in hindsight what had happened! I left the property soon after but upon return, the staff had clearly been in my room to tidy away the tea etc, which again I was not aware would be happening! The location of the property was really great and I was able to walk to most places I wanted to visit, other than most temples which I got public transport/a taxi to. The room itself was beautifully traditional, though the bathroom facilities were very basic. The futon bed was very comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. It was certainly an experience to stay in the room and try on the traditional clothing provided. The room included breakfast (was unaware of this too!) that was to be delivered to the room but I was unable to experience this as I left earlier than the breakfast time. Check out was simply handing back the key before leaving so was very quick! The property gave me a lovely souvenir to take back too which, again, was a lovely touch! Overall, a really great property that I wish I'd had more time to experience!

Very friendly and attentive staff, should have used their service to avoid unnecessary mistakes and potential tramps, everyone should know how frustrating Japanese transport system can be! Reasonable close to subway station, literally right next to Nijo Castle!

I stayed here in a double room and overall had a pretty good experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and both the air conditioning and heater worked very well. One thing that really stood out was the bathroom — the bathtub was much larger than what you usually get in Japan. I’m a tall person, and I could actually sit down and lie back comfortably, which is rare. Most hotel baths feel very small, but this one felt closer to around 1.4m in length, which made having a bath genuinely enjoyable. The bed was comfortable, and housekeeping did a great job — the bed was made every day with fresh sheets. Wi-Fi was also very fast, which was a big plus. Amenities were decent, and you can pick up extra items if you need them. Check-in is a bit late at 3pm, which I didn’t love, but that’s balanced out by an 11am checkout. Having that extra time in the morning made it feel worth it overall. I did have a couple of negatives. The strangest one was finding an old sock behind the TV when I arrived. It was very obvious and not hidden, so I’m not sure how it was missed during cleaning. It was a bit gross, but I just left it. Another downside was the mini fridge — it’s more like a cooler than a real fridge. It keeps drinks from getting warm, but they don’t get properly cold. In summer, this really wouldn’t be good enough. Replacing it with a proper mini fridge would be a big upgrade. The other major issue was the lift. It is painfully slow, and there’s only one lift for the upper floors. On checkout day, I left my room about 10 minutes before checkout time, and I almost didn’t make it downstairs in time because of how slow it was. That part was honestly pretty ridiculous. Location-wise, this hotel is excellent. It’s very easy to get to from Kyoto Station — just head south and you’re there in about 4–5 minutes. It’s also very convenient when leaving Kyoto by train. A tip for using the subway: instead of going back to Kyoto Station, walk right from the hotel to Shijō Station. It’s on the same subway line, you’ll get on before Kyoto Station, and the train is empty — so you’re almost guaranteed a seat and can ride comfortably to your destinations. For food and shopping, there’s a shopping mall just across the road toward the station with a Don Quijote, McDonald’s, and other options. The hotel is also right next to a Coco Ichibanya curry house, which is fantastic and open late. Overall, despite a few odd issues, this was a solid stay with a great location, good comfort, and very easy access to transport. I’d happily consider staying here again.

Location not the best and can find nearer to Kyoto station with same price. The location only good to go Nijojo castle, Toji Temple & Ginkako temple. Nothing much nearby, no night bars only a restaurant opposite it. The worst was no lift, for a female with 20 kg luggage, I have to carry it for 4 levels up and down all by myself. It’s understandable no space to install lift, but pls consider to install a luggage travel lift. Layout of the room is very good especially bath and toilet inside the room. Some may not like it cause ppl may back late night to bath and make noises. But I do like the single room layout with small dress up table before the capsule bed.

Jag är helt nöjd! Detta är ett japanskt affärshotell. Under de 2 veckorna av min vistelse såg jag bara européer 2 gånger. Personalen är mycket artig, städar, byter handdukar varje dag. Ett gäng engångssaker och till och med pyjamas. Rent, rökfritt hotell (vilket för mig, som astmatiker, är ett gediget plus). I samma hus är Lawson tillgänglig i 24 timmar, det finns utmärkta izakaya och soboshnye i närheten (står med ryggen mot utgången från hotellet, vi är lite till vänster och rakt fram, annars hittade jag dem inte rätt bort). Området är lugnt, 3 minuter till tunnelbanan, 10 minuter till Kyoto Station och en större trafikplats, bussen till akvariet stannar precis under fönstren. Hotellet erbjuder frukostar (jag gick inte till dem, det var för tidigt) och middagar (du kan välja, olika varje dag, beställa före 9:00). Hotellet har även sento(!) och laundramata. Jag kommer bara 200% hit igen! 2 minus för mig personligen: 1. Tidiga (mycket) frukostar. 2. Fruktansvärda kuddar (men det var samma sak i Osaka, det här är kanske ett regionalt inslag)

Regarding the cleaning, bedroom and bed perfect. Shower cleaned. But the floor an the sinks of the bathroom not always cleaned, same for the floor in the toilets.but I supposed after full day, with many people using them, it is surely not the mistake of the people cleaning hard, I could see them on duty. Now talking about the staff at the reception, some were nice and some really not smiling at all and pretending not speaking english when it was suiting them. And final point, cannot take a shower after 9 am and cannot go to the common room after 10 pm!! Not very convenient when you need to work late or eat late if you had a long day out… we are not children going to bed before or latest 10 pm…🙄 It is difficult as we cannot do so in the bedroom to not disturb our room mates…
