Well, what a Gem the Yalbury Cottage was. My hubby and I went for a belated 50th Anniversary and an absolute fantastic night we both had A welcome face from Ariane who showed us to our room with views of the hillside and Alpacas. Then later down to the lounge for a drink, with home made apperitifs what a treat. Both saying if these were anything to go by we were in for a great evening. And OMG the next course was fabulous. Home made roll followed by our starters. Main course what amazing with tasters in-between each course. I couldn't do dessert but hubby took cheese which didn't disappoint. Drinks later in the cosy warm woodburing stove lounge made the night. Slept well in the comfy bed, then breakfast in the morning which again was fabulous. So all we will say is thank you so much to Jamie Ariane and the staff for a very memorable and fantastic time. We will be back, and please try it out for yourselves you want be disappointed Thanks again Ian/Sylv

Well, where do I start? This place is a hidden gem. I went for my dad's birthday,. We ordered 2 traditional afternoon teas and 2 cheese afternoon teas with homemade chutneys, as well as local produce. The lovely owner (Sorry, I can't remember her name) talked us through our food, which was homemade, the different cheeses. The goat cheese was my husband's favourite, and my mum, who hates cheese, fell in love with the cobbler tomato chutney and camembert topped with mixed seeds divine. The presentation was outstanding, and communications for booking were smooth. I really can not rave about this hidden gem enough.

With the exception, perhaps of a small hotel in Mendoza, Argentina, I find it hard to recall a hotel stay I have anjoyed as much as that I spent recently at Yalbury Cottage. Welcomed oin pur first visit as if we were old friends, we were shown to a gorgeous, generously sized room; the bed was a joy to sink into and there was - so rare, now - a bath to luxuriate in. The welcome continued as we took dinner (which I have reviewed seperately) and over a splendid breakfast the next morning. The dinner, B&B rate seemed to us to be an absolute bargain. Given that we were here on a wet day in November I could only imagine how great it must be to stay here in the height of spring or summer. A particular mention to the hostess and the delightful receptionist, both of whom exemplified eveything that is good about the UK hospitality industry - but now, sadly, what one always finds.

Beautiful old cottage with spacious and well appointed rooms , lovely gardens with outdoor seating area and a great lounge for pre dinner drinks. The food though was awesome , the best I've had for a very long time and service was exceptional . Reasonably priced and extensive drinks menu , a truly memorable stay .

Our cosy room in the cottage overlooked a small garden and fields in a quiet spot just outside Dorchester. Drinks in the garden were followed by a delightful, top quality three course dinner in the restaurant. Breakfast next morning was prepared to a similarly high standard. Staff throughout our stay were friendly and welcoming.

This quirky and unique cottage is the most delightful hotel. The rooms are cosy & comfortable. To say the owners & staff are incredibly welcoming & hospitable is an understatement - absolutely nothing is too much trouble. However, the star of the show is the food - innovative & sublime - a gourmet experience!

We booked a dinner bed and breakfast package. So warmly greeted by a lovely team including the owners. Nice room, simply furnished but warm and comfortable and I love the use of Naked Sprout recycled loo paper. An Incredible dinner with lovely canapés in the sitting room with drinks beforehand and a four course dinner . Very generous portions; as cheese lovers we couldn’t fit that course in! Fine dining in a cosy unpretentious setting. Breakfast is well worth the stay. Unlimited amount of whatever you choose. The smoked haddock with a creamy chive sauce is absolutely scrummy. Can’t wait to go back .

Not the first time we have stayed here and it certainly won’t be the last. Upon arrival you are greeted by friendly staff and the excellent service continued throughout our stay. The hotel offers everything you need to have a lovely stay in Dorset with extremely good food and a very relaxing quaint atmosphere. We are very much looking forward to coming again and staying at the cottage soon!

All around a great place to stay and eat! Location is wonderful, close to Thomas Hardy Cottage, and a nice walk along the River Frome. Room was great, clean and comfortable. The dinner here was awesome! And breakfast was one of the best. Clean, relaxing, and very friendly staff - highly recommend!
