I booked the Presidential Suite and was looking for more of an authentic African vibe which I thought this place would provide. I left after an hour, I was so uncomfortable. I'll say that the staff I encountered were all friendly but the hotel itself was a far cry from 4 stars. There were more steps than I could count to get to my room, something I was completely unprepared for. The AC provided zero coolness and the room remained hot and stuffy for the time I was there. In fact, the AC shut off every 10 minutes and not because it reached its desired temperature. I expect a bit of a moldy smell in pretty much every seafront hotel in a hot climate but the smell in the entire hotel was one of must and mold and triggered the first asthma attack I've had in over 12 years. You could see the embedded dirt in the area rugs and the bedding felt scratchy and uncomfortable. I sat on the mattress to test it and it was as uncomfortable as it looked. The furnishings were what I expected but the overall look of the room was dirty and outdated. The bathroom had one working light; one bulb was completely out and the other flickered in and out. I was unfortunately still charged for this stay in spite of the health risks this place held (I have a heart condition and asthma that's been a non-issue for many years). When I left they wanted to charge me a city tax on top of not being refunded the room. I refused and will dispute it on my bill if it shows up on my statement. This was not the best start to a trip of a lifetime. I was able to make a reservation with points at the Park Hyatt which was an absolute delight.
