We stay at this hotel for two nights as part of a travelzoo deal on a bed and breakfast basis. The room: We paid to upgrade to a superior room, number 302. The room was a good size with a seating area, dressing table, comfortable king size bed and an ensuite with a shower over the bath. There was a nice selection of hot drinks and biscuits and the tv was a decent size for the room. There was a small empty fridge on the floor of the room which you could fit a bottle of wine/ water in. There were fixed toiletries available in the bathroom but we didn’t use these as we prefer our own and the tops of the toilets weren’t particularly clean from previous guests. There was a hairdryer available in the bathroom but if you have thick or fly away hair I would recommend bringing your own as it was not very powerful and no attachment nozzles available. The shower does not have a thermostat so you need to use the bath taps to adjust the temperature and you can’t switch from shower to bath mode so need to fill the bath using the shower if required. The toilet in the bathroom has been placed in the gap between the end of the bath and the wall so if you were on the larger size this could be an issue. The view from this room was off the roof of the conservatory, if a view is important to you it might be worth calling the hotel prior to your arrival to request this. Due to the age of this property, you can hear noise from other guests and the house keeping team. This did not bother us but something to consider if you’re a light sleeper. We had an afternoon tea on arrival which was included in the package and was very nice, with fresh hot scones and a good portion of jam and cream. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant both mornings and dinner one of the evenings. Dinner was reasonably priced for the quality and portions provided. There were lots of things on the menu that weren’t available but the menu had a lot of choice so this was not an issue. The service was good and all the staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was not so great. They ran out of many of the hot breakfast items even when the restaurant was not busy which meant that several guests had to stand and wait for items to be replenished causing a queue. There were not enough utensils for the cooked breakfast items on offer so people were using the same tongs/ spoons to collect sausages/ eggs/ mushrooms ect which could of been a problem for people with dietary allergies or vegetarian/ vegan diets. The was a very poor selection of fruit and yogurts available . The one young lady trying to keep up with replenishing the food, replacing the milk in the coffee machine ect was very polite and immediately actioned requests from guests but they could of done with an extra pair of hands for the service to be successful. The grounds and exterior of the building is well maintained and most of the public areas are clean. We did have to let reception know that the same squashed food item ha
