Great experience, authentic Japanese style hotel where you take your shoes off. The Onsen Bath is a must. The food is great - even though you need to be adventurous in trying things. The hotel is absolutely quiet and relaxing. Takayama is a nice village and worth walking around.

This hotel is beautiful and we would have given it five stars but its location is so far away from any of the sites you’d want to visit. Our room was clean and comfortable and we had a private dining experience in kimono. The food was exquisite even if not all to our liking. Staff were kind and helpful at all times. There is a small minibus which will pick you up at the train station. It arrived late. To find it you need to cross over to the other side of the station - the opposite side of the main road.

The kaiseki menus, impressively vast in size, were served in private rooms, adding a touch of exclusivity to our dining experience. The service was truly outstanding, with a dedicated staff member catering to our needs throughout our stay. One of the highlights was the private onsens available from our room, providing a serene and relaxing escape. It added an extra layer of luxury to our stay, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A thoughtful touch we appreciated was finding our shoes neatly arranged each morning as we left the hotel for the day. It showcased the meticulous attention to detail that characterized our entire stay. In summary, this hotel is a gem, offering not only delectable cuisine with expansive kaiseki menus but also exceptional service and thoughtful amenities. The meandering path through the bonsai garden says “you are home”. Upon arrival the staff line up to bow respectfully and you are assigned a personal valet. Traditionally Japanese with tatami mats throughout and a luxurious onsen with outdoor and indoor pools, sauna and cold plunge. There’s also a hot foot bath next to the koi ponds. Meals are exquisite with a couple of choices for each meal. Rooms are traditional with a bathtub and shower. The view is nice, especially for being in the city. Well worth the cost.
